Excellant choice TRHK. So its One hit wonders you loved (but maybe shouldn`t have ) by men with superb sideburns with a summer theme.

Sailor one hit-wonders?

What about their true classic, "Girls, Girls, Girls"?

Now this is still one to get my body moving in an uncoordinated way.

Bwian - I was 5 when In The Summertime came out. I guess I liked it because it was almost a children's song (not the lyrics of course) - haven't heard of the other ones - which doesn't mean they weren't hits of course. [edit - looked them up - they were hits!]

1 Mungo Jerry In The Summertime Jun 1970 Notes
32 Mungo Jerry Baby Jump Feb 1971
1 Mungo Jerry Baby Jump (re-entry) Feb 1971
5 Mungo Jerry Lady Rose May 1971
13 Mungo Jerry You Don't Have To Be In The Army To Fight In The War Sep 1971
21 Mungo Jerry Open Up Apr 1972
3 Mungo Jerry Alright Alright Alright Jul 1973
32 Mungo Jerry Wild Love Nov 1973
13 Mungo Jerry Longlegged Woman Dressed In Black Apr 1974

Here's one from 1979. Got this album "GoonHilly Down" as a white label promo when I worked at WHSmiths record Dept (when it used to be in a separate store behind the main Smiths on Churchill Square). Loved it but they never made it and only one track really worked for them - The Planets - Lines.

Just looked this up - this "hit" only made it to #36 in Aug 1979.

I'm useless at remembering all of them, so googled uk one hit wonders and the first return is this:

List of one-hit wonders in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Which defines one hit wonders as a song that hit number one by an artist that had no other song to chart (i.e. if a follow up hit number 68 it charted so the artist is not a one hit wonder) in the UK chart (which goes up to 200, apparently).

Apparently that's Guinness method, but I think most people think of one hit wonders as artists who only have one song break into the top 10.

Using the guinness method these are all the one hit wonders (for anyone who cares):

Kitty Kallen "Little Things Mean a Lot"
The Dream Weavers "It's Almost Tomorrow"
The Kalin Twins "When"
Jerry Keller "Here Comes Summer"
Ricky Valance "Tell Laura I Love Her"
B. Bumble and the Stingers "Nut Rocker"
The Overlanders "Michelle"
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown "Fire"
Zager and Evans "In the Year 2525"
Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg "Je t'aime... moi non plus"
The Archies "Sugar Sugar"
Lee Marvin "Wand'rin' Star"
Norman Greenbaum "Spirit in the Sky"

Matthews' Southern Comfort "Woodstock"
Clive Dunn "Grandad"
The Simon Park Orchestra "Eye Level"
Typically Tropical "Barbados"
J.J. Barrie "No Charge"
The Floaters "Float On"
Althea & Donna "Uptown Top Ranking"
Brian and Michael "Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs"
Anita Ward "Ring My Bell"
Tubeway Army "Are 'Friends' Electric?"
Lena Martell "One Day at a Time"
Fern Kinney "Together We Are Beautiful"
MASH "Suicide Is Painless"
St Winifred's School Choir "There's No-one Quite Like Grandma"
Joe Dolce Music Theatre "Shaddap You Face"
Charlene "I've Never Been to Me"
Phyllis Nelson "Move Closer"
The Young Ones "Living Doll"
(Though 'Neil' did release 'hole in my shoe' on his own)
Steve 'Silk' Hurley "Jack Your Body"
MARRS 3 "Pump Up the Volume"
Robin Beck "First Time"
Partners in Kryme "Turtle Power"
Hale and Pace "The Stonk"
Doop "Doop"

Teletubbies "Teletubbies say "Eh-oh!""
Mr Oizo "Flat Beat"
Baz Luhrmann "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)"
Rui Da Silva "Touch Me"
DJ Pied Piper "Do You Really Like It?"
Las Ketchup "The Ketchup Song"
Yanou "Heaven"
The Kumars "Spirit in the Sky"
Michael Andrews "Mad World"
Frankee "F.U.R.B. (f*** You Right Back)"

3 of a Kind "Baby Cakes"
Steve Brookstein "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)"
Nizlopi "The JCB Song"

The ones in bold are ones I like, even if I shouldn't.

At that link above, there's also a list of duets that are "one hit wonders" because it's the only collaboration by the artists (i.e. queen and david bowie's under pressure is in the list)

I'm sure there are others generally considered one hit wonders that I like too (chesney hawkes, for example)

Well done Acker79, that's this thread finished then! :)

Why? Even if people don't want to use the more generic definition of 'one hit wonder', they can still use the list/link I provided to list ones they like. I only mentioned the list for people who, like me, struggle to remember them, and the definition to explain why it was such a short list and didn't include, say, Chumbawumba's "Tubthumping"
