I have lived in London 17 years.......was brought up in Patcham,
N. Brighton

As far as the Olympics in London go.....well

I really don't want them and I don't think I'm alone here.

It will cost me more in Council Tax. It will provide me
with facilities which I have 'kinda already, unless that is I take up
high board diving, gymnastics or judo;
and most outrageously, it will line the
pockets of developers and fat cats in this City.

Forget all this cr*p about transport infrastrucure and our
youth....money is behind it all. Btw, they must have already
spent millions on the tubes decked out with 2012 seats......

The Queen was right...Paris is a more suitable venue.

Any comments from London seagulls or generally?

btw......put affordable housing on the recommended site...
solve one of London's big, big problems........the low pay of
essential services not high board diving pools...ffs

being a Sydney-sider I think the Olympics did more for our city than we could ever have done - but you have to have the right people running the show!! nearly every problem you can think of is able to be overcome, but you have to have private and public sector backing it.... if you lose either you lose all!!

If you don't want the Olympics you're an idiot.

If having the Olympics stops The FA from bidding for a major football tournament then I am all for it.

The only negative point will be the huge embarassment we will suffer as all these visitors from around the world have to suffer our transport network.

Albion & England forever.

because at the moment...you're looking the idiot.

Ok - I disagree but fair enough...

its not as if it would be here every year? but having the facilites to hold it once in a while would be fantastic?

They can have a tournament here after I am dead or have stopped following England abroad, whichever comes sooner.

Well i'm no sherlock but having the eyes of the world on my doorstep appeals to me.

Who cares about the cost? I would rather this country's abundant cash resources were pissed up the wall at least trying to entertain me. Plus we can show-off to the world how important we are.

How can you not want a global jamboree in town? is it the traffic in the mornings?

Brixtaan,

and the eyes of the world are not on us anyway?

jamboree? For a few thousand people...........

the ticket prices (as per Athens) will be astronomical for the
plumb races etc.....

So, generally speaking...the average Londoner might as well
watch it on the tv anyway.......and wahey,,,,,,they get to pay
extra for the privelage.

Traffic in London? ....well if it's East End/Dalston/hackney, then
not an issue unless you work in Docklands.......

my mate was working in greece for the summer and ponced up and scored tickets for the 100m final.

sounded EASY to me.

i think we should get the olympics. i wanna go and we'd get loads of COOL new places :)

Raphael,

yes..they were so high for even minor spectator
sports that they had to have a re-think half-way through
because the stadia were half-empty. I do remember the
idea of *giving* away tickets just so they the stadia would
look full..

I can't speak for your mate......but you can't tell me that
London will be any different....it wil be worse with all the
pin-striped ponses we have in this City.

I think the time is right for the London bid to be successful.

It would be great to have such a prestigious event in London and the South-East. I can see it now - beach volleyball at Buckingham Palace, the Marathon ending in The Mall, rowing on the Thames, shooting in Brixton...

It's a particularly fabulous attitude that we British have, isn't it?

"Would you like to host the world's greatest sporting spectacle? To invite the finest athletes on the planet to fight it out for supremacy in your city? For records to be broken and for amazing new facilities to be built permanently? For an enormous cultural renaissance, the like of which we've never seen?"

"No thanks, it might be a bit of a pain finding somewhere to park."
