Oldham Athletic suffer new Failsworth stadium setback
Oldham first began playing at Boundary Park in 1906
Oldham Athletic's bid for a new stadium has suffered a setback after proposed plans to move to Failsworth were rejected by the Charity Commission.

The Commission stated it was "not satisfied" that the proposed swap was in its interests.

A club statement said: "Having waited patiently for many months we are not only shocked by this outcome, but bitterly disappointed."

The Latics had hoped to build a 12,000 all-seater stadium on the land.

The proposals came after plans to develop Boundary Park were blocked.

The statement added: "Our objective has always been, and remains, to provide a solution to the long term future of OAFC.

We need to carefully consider how we arrived at this wholly unsatisfactory position and what the next steps will be

Oldham Athletic club statement
"Boundary Park cannot provide that, and it would appear that yet another genuine opportunity to cement that future has passed Oldham by.

"The outcome at this time is that, on the basis of the information supplied by OMBC within the application, the charity commission is not satisfied that sufficient information has been provided to enable the commission to exercise their power and permit the transfer to proceed.

"We need to carefully consider how we arrived at this wholly unsatisfactory position and what the next steps will be."

When they were in the Premiership (think it was still the Premiership back then) they shirley had bigger crowds than 12k, even if 6k of them were visiting Man Utd/Liverpool/Villa etc. fans.

Bit surprised they can't find some slums or derelict factories to build on, it's not as though there's a shortage of them.

Oldham Athletic will consider relocation - Alan Hardy

Oldham have had plans to develop their Boundary Park rejected
Oldham Athletic chief executive Alan Hardy says the club may have to leave the town if they want a new stadium.

The Latics has hoped to move to a new stadium in Failsworth but the Charity Commission have rejected their plans.

Hardy told BBC Radio Manchester: "Just what we're going to do now I've no idea and it does look like we may to look at other options outside of Oldham.

"I want to stay in Oldham but if Oldham can't accommodate us then we will have to look elsewhere."

The club had plans to develop Boundary Park blocked and took the decision to look into other viable locations, opting for a 12,000 all-seater stadium and facilities at Failsworth.

However after over a year of reviewing the site the Charity Commission stated it was "not satisfied" that the proposed swap was in its interests.

Hardy added: "We've been looking at this relocating to a new ground or rebuilding Boundary Park now for seven years.

"We need to raise the funds to build a new stadium and to raise the finds we've got to sell Boundary Park because we haven't got the money to redevelop here.

"We've got to find a solution to it and me and the rest of the board will be working hard to find that solution."

Seems like they need a poker player to buy ther club and redevelope their existing ground as the board there now cant afford it.

I was told while on holiday by an Oldham supporter that it is Paul Scholes dream to manage Oldham as that club is his first love. If that is the case could he not head up a consortium to buy them out.
