Why don't goalkeepers pick the ball up from backpasses?

They always hoof the ball up the park, sometimes without taking a touch first. A lot of times they just kick it out of play forcing throw-ins for which you can't be offside. Doesn't make sense!

Well.....we all thought the ball had to go between the posts for it to be a goal but those rules changed yesterday.

One of my favourite Goldstone goals was a throw in to Nelson who was in an offside position (but it was a throw in so he wasnt) and he ran down the wing and placed a perfect cross onto Bremner's head who buried it into the noth stand net.
