That would have reduced the target to 432 and given Kent 6 more overs to play with.

I guess Adams feared they might have gone for it and won. Who knows?
Sake, if you're going to win the championship, you have to take a punt now and then. If it was a gettable target for Kent, they might have actually tried to get it, thereby increasing our chances of success. Adams guaranteed the safety of four points, instead of going all out for 14.

The consensus in the north west corner where I sit was that we should have declared overnight to encourage Kent to go for it and give our bowlers a real chance instead of facing batters who are blocking every ball. We were really surprised at Adams decision and also why he bothered to come onto the field and risk further damage to his thumb.

Shows what we know about cricket:lol:

Very poor crowd for the last day given it was a lovely day and the chance to see us gain a win over the pikeys.

In hindsight a poor decision, but hindsight is a fine thing.

Lacking the matchwinner Mushy and a pitch churning out runs I would have been tempted to bat on for a bit. Still 11 points is 11 points and we are back at the top, albeit for a short time.

If Mushy and Rana had been in our side, we'd have won inside three days

IMNVHO a very, very poor decision for which Adams has previous...

his reasoning that giving the opposition no chance of winning has an important demoralising effect on them, and thus increases the chances of a home victory, is understandable but clearly flawed

the "win/win" effect of both having more overs to bowl them out and having them playing more shots (at least for a time) far outweighs the more negative thinking behind delaying the declaration...

for me, it smacks too much of his own ego orientation and simplistic approach to playing the game

how many sides in the history of the game have ever chased 431 to win on the last day on a pitch that started the match dry??? let them try it! - give yourself more chance of winning and only settle for the draw when all else has been attempted - ok, you don't get the guaranteed satisfaction of underlining your dominance in the game by batting on but unfortunately they don't award points for that activity...
