won't be obscure if you're into world cinema but i offer you:

Goodbye Lenin - a story based during fall of berlin wall. whilst the youth of East Germany are embracing the new way of life, a son has to protect his ill mother from any shock and elaborately reconstructs a false world around her whereby (her beloved communist) East Germany lives on. excellent film.

Old Boy - dark Korean film. to tell you what it's about would be to tell you too much. just watch it.

City of God - surely everybody has now seen this amazing Brazilian film about growing up amongst the gangs of Rio's favellas - if not, it's a must watch foreign Pulp Fiction of sorts.
