that is bad news

he did a good job today of keeping sidwell and harper quiet. when he went off reading started to run the game more in the midfield

maybe its time for super dave lee to come in

After all the talk that Charlie would be crap at this level he had a great game.

I agree as soon as he went Reading took control of the middle.

We just have to do the best we can in the next month until , chippy , knight and charlie are back.

Hopefully rodger too.

he wasnt too far out his depth today, we still have reid/nicolas to play in the middle, and with carpenter to return. hamstring 4-6 weeks? is carpenter training yet? but when knight is back we will def revert back to 4-4-2 for sure. robinsons goal may encourage mcghee to play 4-4-2 for plymouth anyway.

Well, the Oatway carpers got their wish today - and what happened? We lost the midfield battle. While he was on, the gameplan went perfectly and Sidwell/Harper were nullified.

This is a blow for Albion because neither Reid nor Nicolas have his tackling agression nor his footballing brain in herding the opposition away from the danger areas.

It is quite amazing how many footballers pull or tear hamstrings which I am told by a physio is due to bad warm up preperations usually but not always obviously.

Thats two threads on here with people praising Charlie!

It's what we have been trying to say beforehand but they could only see it today.

The game changed when he went off.

Charlie did a good job but in partnership with Reid and Nicholas. The problem was that when Hinsh came on it wasn't in his natural position and we lost shape because of that - not that there was a problem with the other two.

As for Charlie having a footballing brain though.....

Yes, he does. It is no accident that he is a more effective tackler than Reid and Nicolas. It is about anticipation and reading the opposition play.

In the play-off final, when Bristol was concentrating early on on attacking down our left through Rougier, it was Charlie who came over and made the extra man to stop that. When they went more central through Doherty, it was Charlie again forcing him to crab sideways all the time. We frustrated the Bristol midfield and Charlie was our main guy in doing that. it is not simply about running around a lot and sticking your foot in, it is about understanding the systems of the opposition and concentrating your play on countering that.

Overstating the case for Charlie, IMHO... firstly, if he was keeping Harper so quiet, then how come the latter scored!?... secondly, Nicolas reads the game and tackles better IMHO (based on 1 game only)... and, finally, Charlie was replaced by a defender; not exactly surprising that we lost our shape a bit in those circumstances...

Having said that, I hope Charlie gets better soon... he should be no more than a squad player when all others are fit IMHO...

err.. could it have been something to do with the fact that Charlie had just limped off ?
