O/T Gary Glitter, do you have any sympathy for him ?

It's good to know that Virgin and HMV (amongst other retailers I'm sure) are still happy to cream off profits from our Gaz's CD back catalogue. Maybe they aren't yet aware that he's a paedophile.. or more likely in the case of Virgin Mr Branson just needs the extra cash.
I doubt very much if they will cream off any profit at all. Glitter was hardly that popular or if he was this waned after his previous tassle with the law when caught downloading porn.
Now who is going to put out a rushed in time for Xmas 'Best of...'; imagine the reaction in the popular press.
Not that I have sifted through the record stores but any of his 'works' are probably consigned to the bargain basement bins in any case.

I seem to remember Michael Jackson's popularity went into free fall at least over here after his high profile case & he was found to be 'innocent'. I don't think this has ever recovered at least in the UK.

Wonder what saddo will launch a 'Glitter is innocent' campaign; probably no one as he was never popular in the uSA.

What is it with the music industry and an unhealthy interest in children

Glitter
Bill Wyman
Pete Townsend
Michael Jackson
Jonathan King

Then at the other extreme you have the likes of Eric Clapton who tried to make his girlfriend abort his son when she was pregnant, and then ignored the child until he tragically died at the age of five. Clapton did not even cry at his kid's funeral.

probably no one as he was not big or indeed known in the USA.

You mean like Oasis?

I read on teletext earlier that he faces 14 years and not the death penalty.

It depends on the charge. A sexual act with a minor is a jail sentence but full intercourse with a girl under 13 is automatically classed as rape and the death sentence.
I understand the girl is 13.

Without GG's music neither the NHL nor pro or semi-pro US baseball games would have any atmosphere at all. Often wondered if his stuff is still played at games Stateside in the light of his fallen reputation.

Townshend is a tricky one. As a massive Who fan I could be biased, but would admit to being surprised to see him twice take the stage to great applause at the Music Hall of Fame awards last week as though the whole police caution thing had never happened. Research? Hmmm

I have the seminal adult version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which is a faithful representation of the Disney Classic, before giving a new meaning to the phrase "Seven Up"

I take it that 'seminal' is the right word, KIERAN.

Neither here nor there
Terry Wogan's auction of "things money can't buy" for Children in Need should include a trip to Vietnam and a place in the firing squad.

Or, my mate's idea: link the Children in Need donations barometer up to Glitter's electric chair. When the total hits £20m, Glitter is toasted live on air!

PS Can someone with more inclination and techie know-how than me please post the pic of baldy Gary in his prison garb. Funniest pic I have seen for years.

Slightly off topic but in the early nineties I worked for a large Australian multi national. Their Eurpean C.E.O. was a former drummer with the Glitter Band and an arsehole. This was the only company of the many I worked for where women really could screw their way to promotion.

Goes without saying that in the wake of some stiff competition this was by far and above the worst company I ever worked for.
