I've got an ear infection and it's driving me mad, the deafness and ringing in my ear
Does anyone know how long it'll go on for?
I really feel for people who are deaf/partially deaf.

A few drops of warm olive oil should solve this.

I have pain free ear infections an never know when I have them! I had a superbug in my ear not last month! My ears are red raw inside!

tinnitus is damage to the eardrum through prolonged exposure to excess noise or an inner-ear infection........definitely go and see a doctor. i had an ear infection through a lot of diving and was almost completely deaf in my left ear , doctor referred me to an e.n.t specialist who literally HOOVERED my lug-holes out as part of the appointment...sensational,felt like i had a set of h/d headphones on afterwards.

Tinnitus isn't an infection.

Tinitus is a disease of the ear. The ear hears some noise which is not external but is there in the perception of the hearer. The affected ears can be one of the two or in some cases both the ears. The area from where the disorder originates is the brain area. The sound which is heard is the ringing noise which takes any form like the whining or the hissing or the humming noise. The noise is pulsating in nature and sometimes is like the sound of the waves.

Tinnitus is caused because of ear infection or because of entry of foreign object in the ear. Hence Tinitus is not a disease and sometimes is caused because of ill effects of preventive drugs prescribed for other health problems. Tinnitus is also caused by imbalances in the sugar level or because of high and low blood presure problems.

I've had problems since a very young age with my ears that and working as an aircraft engineer has rendered my hearing as useless.

I constantly get ear infections and after many operations still do and only antibiotics do the trick. Go to the docs first before putting anything in your ear. Introducing olive oil or placing cotton wool in the ear increases the warmth of the ear, a truly great breeding ground for the infection you have now created. Never close off the ear with cotton wool if you have an infection. If you need to go outside wear a woolly hat covering the ear, this still allows circulation around the ear.

It is so easy to damage your ears and once damaged they can not be restored to full hearing. Tinnitus resulting from an infection usually goes within a month but damage your ears and you get it for life, tell me about it (if I could hear that is)

LE2 is not wrong. Tinnitus is not an infection.

Coming from someone who suffers from mild tinnitus and major hearing loss.

From the British Tinnitus Association...

Tinnitus is not a disease or an illness, it is a symptom generated within a person's own auditory pathways. Although it is often assumed that tinnitus occurs as a result of disease of the ears, this is often not the case. The precise cause of tinnitus is still not fully understood.

Let the doctors argue then...

My own personal experience is that ear infections are more frequent when the inner ear is allowed to be damp and humid. Its the ideal environment for breading of the bacteria.

My advice would be, after bathing, showering or hair washing always make sure your ears are well dried. Sometimes towels are too bulking to get in there so use a tissue or bit of toilet paper. Works for me.

Some half century on I can still remember the pain and indignity, as a child, of having what seemed like a massive needle stuck in my backside to administer a cure for ear ache.

"caused because of"? The rest of the site is even less professional. And they don't even mention infections on their own "Causes of Tinitus" page.

Tinnitus isn't an infection, though infection CAN cause it.

As for "Doctor" - which one one us "diagnosed" her problem?
