I tried it, I don't get it. It seems bad enough to me that some people want everyone to know about every minute detail about their life BUT who is sad enough to set up a fake account? Surely it discredits the whole medium if you are never sure if it's a genuine account being tweeted from?

That's why a lot of celebrities have their accounts "verified" by Twitter, so people can identify the authentic accounts from the fraudsters.
