think it was him with a mini/mobile amplifier system plus microphone at "the" Hereford match. Announcements included "we can see you Bellotti, there's no hiding place"

hope you get well soon

Top fella, I can remember him one New Year's Eve in Worthing at the clock tower wearing a policemans helmet that either he or someone else had knocked off a copper's head.

Get well soon Nige!

Anyone got an update on how he's doing?

He is doing as well as can be expected. The staff at the hospital have asked for the word to be put round so that he does not receive so many visitors as it is tiring him out. Just listening to people puts a lot of strain on him and then he tries to reply and it is very difficult for him. He is still ogling the nurses though. He has a Albion scarf across his bed now lets just keep our fingers cross for the little git over the coming weeks and months.

Sid.

FFS i havent laughed so much at sad news ever, due to some of the comments on here. Loved the story about the cop car!
I dont really know him other than to have had the odd chat in pubs.

Hope he has a full and speedy recovery.

Shocking news - get well soon Nigel, you are a real hero and true Albion legend - and you have to be at The Amex for the opening match on Saturday 6 August.

As each day passes, I hope you get stronger and stronger - if not taller and taller!

Thinking of you mate and know you'll recover well.

Paul S

PS Damn annoying that nurses all wear trousers now......

Heard about this on Saturday - any further updates? Get well soon Nige. Thoughts are with you!

He was tuned into radio Sussex last night and had his first bit of liquidised food for 10 days yesterday. Managing a few words now as well although gets very frustrated when he tries to talk. He has some days better than others. I will print this thread off in a couple of days and take it in for him. Still doesn`t have anything on his R/H side and John Keeley popped in the other day and said in that inimitable Essex voice that ''You`ll wanna get that sorted mate, coz it`s hard work left handed''
Nige knew exactly what he meant.

Just a quick thank you on behalf of Nige for all the cards and kind thoughts since his stroke. All the tubes are out and he is eating normally and they have got him on his feet now and he is taking a few steps with the help of the rails. Still struggling with his right arm but amazing to see the progress in a month.
Has watched all the Albion dvd`s ten times over but I`ve told him no porn just yet. Still struggling with speech but it is so much more encouraging now. I`ve told him only 5 months left to get fit. He loved the fact that he got a HT mention at Withdean. Cheers boys.

Well if he's struggling with his right arm as you say...

Speedy recovery n all that

Perhaps we could have a whip round to find someone to do it for him!

All the best Nige for a very speedy recovery, thanks for giving me a story from the Goldstone days that always puts a smile on people's faces when it is told!

Bad Fan.
I was working yesterday but have told Paul Samrah gave him a mention yesterday. How is Nigel getting on?

The hospital are looking at a placement for the next couple of months in a nursing home. It will probably be in the next week or so but there are no plans in the foreseeable future to be able to get Nige back home, he still needs constant care. He is improving very slowly but he is unable to get out of bed or anything by himself although he can manage a few steps with his frame if helped up by a couple of nurses.

Bummer,I have known Nigel since the ICC coaches/norris days, when the Worthing branch of the supporters club were the only branch capable of putting together a coachload of fans to an away game.
good luck to the man.I hope he can get it together for the first game at the Amex.has he got a season ticket?

Anyone got any pics of Nige. He needs to be on the mosaic!

Hi Gripper , at last I have found this pic of me and my old mate Nigel ' Bushfire ' Erskine in 2001 and it was taken by an American mate who was staying with me and my ex and he has kindly sent it over to me. He thought Nige was a legend as soon as he met him. I have know Nige and Cyanide Sid since we were kids so around 45 years plus. I will add another Bushfire story - Myself, Ian Hart and Nige went to Leeds away, sadly the Hillsborough disaster day. We were in the upper tier of the away end and at half time Nige offered to get three pies for us so off he went but came out of the wrong exit onto the terrace below looking around bemused, Harty shouted out to him and Nige looked up , saw us and exclaimed oh bollocks and proceeded to launch them at us from the lower tier both landing in a mess yards away, typical Nige returning to us still open mouthed and him in hysterics. A humourous part of what ended in being a dreadful day for football. Get well soon old buddy and will be by to see you soon.

ps ... If anyone can get hold of a copy there were brilliant pics in the newspapers inc Argus,
of Nige being held aloft by Michael Robinson ( wearing Nige's Trilby Hat) on the pitch by the tunnel at the end of the 83 Cup semi final at Highbury. If found would be brilliant for the mosaic !!!

I am having trouble sending private messages on here at the moment for some reason and have tried to contact a few people but to know avail.

I spoke with Paul Samrah at Walsall recently, thanking him on behalf of Nige for all the kind wishes and announcements at the games and he said that there might be plans to put on a charity gig/night for Nige to raise a few pennies when John B got back.

As I have said I have tried to mail people but if either of the boys could get back to me to see if there is anything we can do this end then that would be cool.

We`re going to try and get him a good tv (no not a transvestite) for his room and if he improves a little maybe a season ticket.

It looks like the nursing home he`ll be going to is the Baytree in Highfield Rd ? , just after the Beckett lights. I`ll know a little bit more after the meeting this week at the hospital.

Cheers SID
