I wasn't aware they gave out knighthoods for being very very very boring, but it would seem that they do.

Faldo does a lot of charity work and has also built up the profile of British Golfers which makes a huge difference in investment and the economy - well deserved

Surely he must be one of the most successful British golfers of all time? Thoroughly deserved in my opinion.

Exactly and should have had this type of award several years ago

The whole honours system is a farce. In any one episode of the secret millionaire you see people far more deserving of an honour than any of the overpaid spoilt luvvies and sportsmen. And don't get me started on politicians and civil servants. It's just as corrupt as the expenses scandal.

I just hope that he takes a spare suit with him, just in case he gets a hole in one.

what a load of sentimental romanticised bollocks. most of the people in secret millionare are they because they havent done anything in their lives. maybe without the opportunities one might say, however the whole point is the millionaire has come from that area. awards are for achievement, service and years of being at the top, not for struggling. deal with it.

Absolutely - although it is completely understandable for some of our younger viewers who never saw him play not to realise, he domniated, certainly the British game, for a long time.

I can't believe poor Ringo hasn't been given a knighthood yet. After all he did for British Music and the British economy. Damn you Queen.

I can as it might have something to do with the MBEs the Beatles returned to the palace once.

I can't make up my mind as to whether or not you're just playing devils advocate. If you are, well done 'cos you certainly got me thinking about replying.

If not, you're a right:tosser:.

Sir Nick is one of the greatest British golfers ever. To win 6 majors and be number 1 in the world for some considerable time says it all.Wankers like you always criticise those that are dedicated and successful. What the f*** do you expect, for him to come out in a clowns outfit and tell jokes or amusing anecdotes?

I don't know if you've ever played golf but let me assure you, the guy was just brilliant.

And comments from prats like you just piss me off.

Whatever you think of him as a person, he was a magnificent golfer who is the best British golfer of the modern era by a million miles. He had the courage to not settle for being a good golfer - by radically changing his swing he became the world's best.

He has also put a lot back into the game through his charity work.

Far more deserved than quite a few footballers or cricketers I could mention...

I always thought golf was a gentleman's game, apparently how it actually works is that when people dare to criticise it or one of it's practitioners, the response is a volley of profanity and virtual hand gestures.

If he's been knighted for his charity work, fair enough. If he's been knighted for playing a human version of 'fetch' then I'm sorry but I can't see the justification (I can't generally see the justification of any sporting or entertainment-based knighthoods....getting paid exorbitant sums of money to do as a job what most of us would call a hobby is hardly noble IMO).

I met the bloke once, and I don't know whether he was having an off-day at the time but the general opinion among everyone who met him that day was that he was arrogant, condescending and generally a complete prick. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's my experience of the man.

Or the absolute joke of the English cricket team getting gongs for winning the Ashes.
