Fair point, but he also do several years with the England under-21s. I think that has to count for something, a lot even. It is more International management experience than Potter has.
International experience would be 100% necessary to have in the staff. Assistant manager in a national team can be combined with a playing career though. Maybe thats where the rumoured Lallana-Potter meetings this spring gets interesting.

The FA is obviously prepared, and perhaps they've talked to Potter (and possibly other candidates?). Not like they're going to wake up the day after the Euros and think "ah, right - we need a manager, who's around?".

But that said, England don’t have another fixture after the euros until September. It’s a bit different with a club side, where it’s nice to get a manager in well before the season starts as you might (or might not) want their input on signings. As long as someone is appointed by say start of the season, that’s plenty of time to get ready.

Absolute worst case scenario is a caretaker for the Nations League games, which let’s face it are pointless fixtures. World Cup qualifying doesn’t start until March, we’d want someone in by then. Better to get the right person for that , even if you have to wait

Yes, and he could combine his playing career in Southampton with being the assistant manager (or just coaching staff) of England. He has been a coach for England U21 for the last year while playing for us.
He's Welsh.
He's also one of very few currently active managers who have won the World Cup with England, so the FA knows he's not one who will shit himself when it comes to big games.

The logic of this argument is horrible. Winning with youth teams does not mean he could handle a senior tournament. There's little evidence he could handle the media duties. Carsley is a better pick than Cooper following your logic!

Of course its not the exact same thing but when they're in a dressing room before the World Cup final, they don't sit and think "meh this is no important". To them its was of course a "real" World Cup final, with the tension and anxiety that comes with it. And they rode it out.

Its certainly not like-for-like, but Coopers U17 World Cup win in 2017 is the only reason you'll find him on the betting lists.

Media duties... anyone who isn't Glenn Hoddle can do it.

Carsley is also a decent candidate of course.

Genuinely scratching my head over this one...
