New Battlestar Galactica - quality entertainment...

I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I just caught up with it before Xmas and am utterly hooked.

It's so full of 9/11 paranoia references, it's utterly brilliant, really quality sci-fi with bits of the West Wing thrown in with the Mary McDonnell character. And very rare that a remake so absolutely pisses on the original shlock series.

Just racing to get through the first series DVD before the new series starts on Sky shortly.

On NSC for over two decades...
I was quite suprised at how good quality the storylines are. It is just a pity they take such LONG mid-season breaks.

As an aside I think the decision to cast Starbuck as a girl was a brilliant move, as lets face it no man could match up to Dirk Benedict in the role.

She's great, but they should have gone the whole hog and made her a dyke that she so obviously is :)

I was wondering that.
Also, why is Starbuck on another planet with an oriental Cylon ?

Ahh, was it that arrow thing they showed in the prologue ? How the hell can an old ARROW show them the way back to Earth ?

(sorry, I fancied watching the first series, but as it was on Sky One that, of course, made it unwatchable. Not a problem now I've got Sky+ though).

Just watching the 1st episode from series 2. Someone remind me, what was the president locked up for? ???:dunce:
She's got religion and thinks the colonists can be saved by her daft old visions about arrows showing the way to earth, quite rightly Adama threw her in the slammer, good man. Starbuck got religion ages ago and so swallowed it all, and went to get said arrow.

The Cylons have also gone all religious, too. The blond Cylon who is screwing Baltar is like half priest/half sex maniac.

The series is clearly trying to tell is something about religion but I can't quite work out what yet. Presumeably if you are a religious fundamentalist you are a Cylon, if you are moderately religious/spiritual you are a good sort like that Mary McDonnell or Hilary Clinton.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

This whole earth thing makes me laugh. Is the premise that we invented space travel to light speed, somehow forgot about how to do it and stayed put on Earth? Meanwhile, those who went from Earth to the 12 planets all lost thier AA Routemasters to Intergalatic travel and somehow earth became myth? How the hell can you lose a planet? An Arrow showing the way is about as good a method as any if they are as incompetant as this at directions.

Still, it was the best thing on TV by far this week.
