Dutch have been completely on top so far. Jake's hardly had a sniff. :(

By the seaside in West Somerset
good shot from Jake pretty much the only thing England did. Poor passing, poor control, poor tactical sense. I know they are only youngsters but you kind of expect a bit more from lads who are supposedly the best for their age.

Its not been great - do feel that the co-commentator is pretty hard and harsh though

I'm sure I remember them being a hell of a lot better this time last year when they won the thing. Though that was with the likes of McEachran, Wickham & Afobe in the side. Netherlands have been better in just about every department so far. Our attacking wide players have been so ineffectual, failing to get past their man practically every time they tried.

Got a little better towards the end of the half once Caskey came into it more - but it'll take one serious turnaround to go on and win this.

EDIT: I'd agree with that Rookie, Stewart Robson does seem to be the eternal pessimist when it comes to England youth sides. He wouldn't have been saying the same thing at last year's tournament I'm sure.

The many millions chucked at our Academys, for shiny new reception areas, 5g ( yes there are 5g's ) pitches and manicured pitches, whilst pampered youngsters with only above average ability ( and usually above average physicality ) have agents negotiating deals that might even clear any future mortgage before they have even played a first team game might not be working as expected.

Ironically at Brighton due to circumstance the scholars rub shoulders with all the coaches and players at our 'under par' training facility.

Maybe offering an environment where advice is heeded, aspiration is ever present, discipline accepted and mentoring encouraged.

It appears that our midfielders have upset our defenders as they seem to want to miss them out and just pass it long to our forwards

For instance the under 18s had a coaching session with Jimmy Flyod Hasselbank the other day and Gus Joined in with the game at the end! How amazing would that be for 16/17/18 year old.

I didnt know that, but as you say that should be inspirational for any youngster and something unlikely to be replicated at Premiership Academys.

Everytime they talk about the 'next generation' on TV they all say that they are treated like superstars before they even get anywhere near the first team! They should go back to cleaning boots, changing rooms, even washing the first teamers cars. They need to keep their feet firmly on the ground so they want to work harder to make it into the first team.

Would it be too presumptuous to assume the English fast and physical game was trumped by the more technically-gifted Dutch game, with possession being 57-43% in their favour? Or was there more to it than that?

No, not really!
They moved the ball quickly in tight areas which England seemed unable to do... maybe I'm biased but Caskey was the only one trying to do this, he wasn't hugely involved in the game but when he was he never gave the ball away and took up clever positions to get it back (but didn't). Although he certainly didn't shine in the same way as he did at Stoke.
