:jester:

signings etc so far..................

SIGNED
Smith (goalkeeper) free transfer from Motherwell
Tunnicliffe (Central defence/right back) circa £150K from Stockport
J Wright (Central defence/left back) circa £150K from Crawley
Dicker (Holding midfielder) free from Stockport
M Wright (right wing/midfield) non contract (ex MKDons)
Thornhill (attacking midfield) loan until January 2010 from Notts Forest
Dickinson (striker) circa £150K from Derby

CONTRACT OFFERS TO BE CONFIRMED
J Smith (left winger/attacking midfield) non contract (ex CPalace)
A Navarro (central midfielder) non contract (ex MKDons)

RUMOURS
Sharp (striker) Sheff Utd @ circa £1 million
Un-named/un-guessed winger from a premiership club - was going to be a loan but became available for transfer (rumour has been cold for a few weeks)
Un-named Arsenal reserves midfielder on loan (rumour has been cold for a few weeks)

Good work severnside but don't forget Andrew Crofts, who has also signed on a bosman from Gillingham, a defensive midfielder, I think?

Sharp would be superb. I doubt it'll happen but you never know. Murray will be off at some stage and will need to be replaced by a quality goalscorer and they don't come cheap.

Slade is hopeful of doing further deals this week, in addition to Navarro and Smith. We're still short of some experience and flair in the midfield.

Why keep singing squad players like Navarro, Smith Crofts etc we need a midfielder to walk straight into the side to perform the role of midfield general in the Chippy or Paul Rogers mould not more squad members. How many midfielders do we need excluding those mentioned we have signed Dicker Wright and to add to Cox Livermore & McLeod

Sorry forgot Thornhill on loan until Christmas

Jesus some people are short sighted. The signings of Crofts and Navarro is as a decent alternative to the first choice central midfield (Thornhill and Dicker). Also it gives us other options like three in midfield like yesterday. Lets be honest as well the central midfield positions are much much stronger than last season and whilst Croft and Navarro is not flair and maybe not top 6 it is a very very solid midtable central midfield and thats our back up. It shows the progress RS has made with our squad in a VERY small amount of time.

You always seem to think that money is no object. It would have been different of course if you had taken over the club.

Added to which what makes anybody think that players who would cost a fee haven't been considered anyway ? Bloom has underwritten Falmer how deep would you like him to dig into his pockets ?

Clearly Bloom has dug deep to fund Falmer and the transfer/playing budget is, we're told, on a par with last season. However, I wouldn't be suprised if extra funds were made available if the right player(s) became available. We need to be in the Championship in 2 years afterall and Falmer needs to be full-ish. But in the meantime, if we can get decent players in on frees/bosmans then why not? Navarro sounds like he fits that bill well.

What we're seeing now is the total overhaul and re-building of the squad and as Slade encouragingly says, "we're a million miles away" from where he wants us to be. He knows there's a lot more to be done. I don't expect the play offs this season but it's exciting to see the squad slowly take shape. This is a good time to be an Albion fan.

Spot on. People are generally very short sighted. Tough league this year. A season of building a squad that next year can compete to get promoted. Navarro is a class addition to the squad and by the sounds of things so will Jamie Smith. Good work Mr Slade.

Added to which Navarro is, I suspect, destined for exactly the "Carpenter-type" role while Smith will challenge McLeod on the left

My whole point is that we are signing a number of players who will probably only get a start in an emergencyand be back up when we could save money by only signing what we actually need and feel will make the first team immediately, as it would appear Navarro is expected to.

We have signed Mark Wright as an alternative to Cox and McLeod so how many more do we need.

We have signed 2 holding midfielders in Dicker and Navarro with Croft as an option. If either of those turns out to be the Chippy type player we need it will be a bonus.

We have Thornhill on loan until Christmas to compliment the midfield.

There is a limit to how many midfielders we can use in the team and I feel that we have sufficient options nothing to do with having an endless supply of money or not as the case may be.

Spot on

This off-season we needed to get rid of alot of dead wood and replace many players/positions.

Come next season hopefully the majority of this squad will have geled and shown RS enough that he wants to keep the list together.

If that happens, then even with the same playing budget as this season he'd be spending it on only 2-3 quality players rather than the 7-8 he's needed to bring in this season.

If Slade wants these 2, let's get 'em signed up... he is a Manager we all, well most of us, trust... he also says he is after signing others, so let's see what happens there too... my take is that midfield is till our weakest area...
