But geographically speaking, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are known colectively as Great Britain (= British) and Great Britain is part of Europe (politically too at the moment).
So, if you are English, you are also British and European
If you are Scotish, Welsh or Northern Irish, you are also British and European but definately not English.

Northern Ireland is not in Great Britian, and it never has been. It is in the United Kingdom, and its residents have the choice of Irish or British citizenship, due to its lack of status, not due to "being British".
Look at the front of your own passport, you'll see it says "United Kingdom of Great Britian and Nothern Ireland".
