Sad to see him go in a way but this has not been the best of seasons for him. If you are playing well and training well the " Odd " incident could be overlooked but by the sound of things his mind is not on the job or on getting things back on track. Thanks Monty, good luck and goodbye.

Essex might be where he goes permanently, although don't rule out Northants, who unlike Essex, have a great chance of playing top division cricket next season and also have a history of preparing turning wickets that have suited their spinner of the day.

But didn't he come to us because he was pissed off with how things were working out for him at Northants. If so, would he want to go back there?

Circumstances have changed, not least as he also had Graeme Swann to contend with for much of his first spell at Northants. Northants could have Division 1 cricket to offer him next season, which they didn't when he left. Essex are unlikely to get promoted, but Northants have every chance and having also just won the T20, they are on an upward curve. If Panesar wants to get back in the England side, he needs to be playing Division 1 cricket and he needs to be playing on wickets with plenty of turn and he is sure to get that at Northampton.
