Have been with Vodafone for 3-4 years and recently emailed them to cancel as i was wanted to go 'pay as you go' instead.

I was paying a tariff of £30 a month. The guy said that as i had been with Vodafone for some time he would cut it to £10 per month for exactly the same deal.

So if you've been with them, or any other network i would imagine, for sometime CANCEL NOW!!!

I know a few people have mentioned that SKY TV work in a simalar way so i'll be cancelling that next week...

sky have cut my 42 pound package in half for 3 months and i know they will do it again(tip from money saving expert website)
just phone them up and say you cant afford it and want to cancel your contract, (indian) call centre will put you through to (scottish)"cancellations"whose job is to retain your custom.tell them you cant afford your package(DO NOT SAY ITS CRAP.THE FILMS STINK OR THE FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER) and they will offer to help by cutting the price in half.

if you are nice and polite, and never commit to cancelling(if you get a guy with a hangover who says "you want to cancel, big deal"
just say you want to think about it and try again for a more user friendly geezer),the M S E website says you might get a whole year at half price(18 months is the longest reported)

WSU, just below the seagull.
I cancelled a longstanding contract with O2 a while ago, cause i get a company mobile. When i went to cancel they offered me all sorts of deals to try and get me to stay, i kept telling them no.

In the end they were that desperate to keep me on a contract that they have put me on a 75minutes and 150 texts a month for nothing!!

We got a great break with Sky TV. For reasons I'm not going into, we ended up with owing them £95 and not being able to pay it, so we were disconnected. No probs I thought, I wasn't actually that bothered.

3 months later, Mrs P gets a phone call from Sky saying "We notice you are an ex-subscriber, what would would it take for you to come back to us?" Just for a laugh, Mrs P says "Wipe out the £95 we owe you and we'll come back" Reply ? "Certainly Madam, you are now reconnected and you don't owe us any money"

They all do it. I had some incredible deal offered with AOL, when I wanted to cancel.

I know NTL do as well.

Just a threat of a cancel, will often get you a better deal.

I tried that with NTL last week.
Told them I wanted to cancel my TV/Phone package (hoping to get some free channels;) ) and came away with free evening and w/e phone calls.
Not what I'd hoped for, bloke seemed to just be going through the motions; i.e couldn't care less.
