I loved RDZ, and if he was still with us I still would.
I loved his big balls and hot blood.
I loved his touchline sprints.
I love that you can buy our players but not our spirit.
If he was a knob (which I disagree with) he was our knob.
We don't know what happened behind the scenes, people say he gave up, if so that's sad, other people say we got found out, if so RDZ is being maligned.
Saying all of that, I love Hürzeler too, in a different way.
(I also loved Hughton, García, Poyet, Adams, McGhee and a whole bunch more)
I feel my life is better for loving the one that I am with and looking back fondly on the good times we had.

so this thread is about a matoma flag, you say?
The hurt from it was tough to take I thought. Managers and players get tempted by huge financial offers all the time, can kind of accept that to a degree.

What was especially painful was he was our guy, our knob as you say, but he left because he couldn’t handle how the owner wanted to do things - an owner considered one of the best in world football right now. It was tough to take.

It was like having a girlfriend you immediately fell in love with, everything you did was magical, she was your ‘one’, then one day she tells you she doesn’t love you anymore…

Idolising players or managers on flags should be done retrospectively IMO, after we’ve seen their track record ie if worthy? A lot more sustainable and enviro friendly too!!

RDZ isn’t top of my list of favourite Albion managers, probably comes in at 3rd place.

Sack Hürzeler, let De Zerbi leave, never welcome back Potter, it's always gonna be Chris Hughton.

No, not at all, but something clearly went down hill at the end of his tenure. what do you think that was down too?
Wasn't he just a bit of a prima donna, didn't get what he wanted so spat his dummy out?
Or maybe he was just 100% focused on improving the club and realised they weren't going to back his vision financially only to give £200 super large to his successor? So voiced his disappointment in the wrong way at the wrong time to the wrong person.
I guess we'll never really know until we read "The memoirs of T Bloom, the man who lead BHA to European success" in a few years time.

He would've known the brief before he signed on the dotted line and once we reached the Europa league thought he had the upper hand and could dictate to Bloom. Then like you say, spat his dummy out when he found out he wasn't going to get his own way.
I was gutted when he left and part of me wishes he was still here, certainly more charismatic than Hürzeler, but Bloom's gonna Bloom.

I doubt De Zerbi will be at Marseilles next season anyway. It's not going that well currently, and their fans aren't renowned for their patience.

My money's on him walking in a huff, or the board getting rid: in either case, over the summer.

Not getting the signings he needed to maintain the push on 3 fronts.

The club stated that we didn't need replacements and having players coming back from injury would lead to unhappy players not getting game time.
The players didn't come back from injury in time and we didn't have enough cover.

Oh and then we bought a load of CMs and a few more 10s at the start of this season.

Isn't it going well? They finished 8th with 50 points last season. They've got 9 games to go and have essentially equalled that performance already. They'll finish second (their highest finish since 21/22), and I think even the most clueless Marseille fan would understand that PSG have to have an off season to have a chance of winning the league, and they're unbeaten this season. Marseille are cruising back to the Champions League, scoring at a rate of more than 2 goals a game, and have the second most wins in the league.

If it's not going well, then what is success at Marseille?

He wanted us to change our wage structure. We're notoriously one of the lowest payers in the Premier League.

He wanted to bring in players who were ready to step in to the first XI and they cost way more in wages than raw 19 year olds.

I know people love a conspiracy theory but there really wasn't much more to it. Tony wasn't willing to change the structure, and Roberto felt that he couldn't take the next step in that structure so they parted.

Yeah I know.

The line about not needing replacement players was bullshit though.
We did.

I suspect TB knew RDZ was not going to be manager this season, and wasn't prepared to spend money on players for him.

We had one of the biggest squads in the league last season, just like this season, and not interested in having a squad with more than 30 first team players.

Roberto had unprecedented support in bringing in expensive, established players like Ansu Fati, Igor and Mohamed Dahoud. It was his job to make it work, and he didn't.
The manager could not match the ambitions of the club. He signed Neal Maupay for Marseille this summer, and that is a signing that says it all: a level of quality we left several years ago.

Roberto De Zerbi wanted players who could go in and do a good job immediately, we wanted players who can become world class. We gave him the chance to have it his way and took several step backwards. After falling out with his personal choice Mohamed Dahoud, who had been performing ok, after a few games, the club wasn't keen on bringing in more of Robertos choices, since we already had a massive squad.

Luckily we now have a manager with the right level of ambition, someone who wants us to be a top team tomorrow rather than ok today.
