If Mark wins another stage and an olympic gold (which is very possible in the madison). What are the chances of him being Sports Personality of the Year?

I won't hold my breath though as cycling is not a BBC sport, except when they have the olympics and perhaps not a fashionable sport in the public eyes as Football, Formula One is etc.

Mind you Zara Philips did win a couple of years ago, so you never know !!

True, but Zara Phillips appeals more to the BBC voter demographic, because she does horsey things.

In the same way, any plucky Brit who loses in the semi-finals of Wimbledon is a shoe-in for the award.

Your quite right a kipper is a herring that has been cleaned, salted, and smoked.
