The west, I believe.

I really like the idea of an observation deck open to the public at the top of the tower.

Will it piss the Regency Society off? If so I am all in favor.

(Yes, even though we've got the go-ahead for Falmer I'm going to harbor a lot of grudges against a lot of people and organisations for a long time).

Good, another fine landmark for our great city. Look forward to standing on the observation deck and admiring the King Alfred towers.

High up on the South Downs.
Anything that pisses off the nimbys is great news. Perhaps they might go back to their old homes in boring middle England.
It looks a beautiful building.

If you get a lift, FFS don't use the same company that put the one up the Portsmouth (Millennium) Spinnaker Tower. Considering it was designed to go on the outside of a tower which is exposed to that strange phenomenon called "weather", the cables all jumped off at the first sign of wind!

However, since then it has seen more than 20000 people go up it, it blocks traffic every weekend, and is doing really well.

Good man Brovian - I knew you'd come around to our way of thinking. Now - let's get onto the Gold.... - there I can't even write it.

Just think how the Rottingdean and Woodingdean NIMBYs will moan about it blocking their sea views. IMO, it will be a vast improvement on most of the buildings at the Marina. The flats over the shops look incredibly shoddily (try writing that after a leisurely Friday lunch involving alcohol) built and the David Lloyd Centre and the cinema and car park are particular mingers.

Oh it is awful. Completely ruined the beautiful seafront and the marina. You can take your Gehry towers and Falmer stadium and sod off. What is with all this progressive architecture. How dare the council do this to us!!

Cant stop as I am meeting John and Angela for a cup of tea and a bitch about modern day britain.

ps Try and keep the noise down on the 20th ;)

Sea bloody views. It must be incredibly boring to look out at nothing but sea.

I dont go to the marina very often but when I do it never looks like its finished. I'm guessing that the three square buildings on the left are the bowling alley, the casino and something else (gym isnt it?)?

Great picture although I wouldnt want to be at the top of that in a winter storm! Hopefully the nimbys can see that from Falmer pond too!

I watched it being built - and it has always looked unfinished. Every new bit is just bolted on - and it still looks ramshackle.

The people who do moan I should think are the ones in the flats behind on the coast road. Let them moan - we have to look at that ugly block.

Couldn't we rehouse the whole of Falmer Village in it,,,,and then launch it into space. Angela Rowland, the First Astronaut from Sussex. Who would get the pleasure of launching it. Billy Archer could have a penthouse on the top! :lolol:

Parts of the marina have been tatty for too long. They need to do something about the car park

I remember a few years ago that they found certain sections of the car park were not safe. The response - hack off the parts that were not safe and just leave exposed sections of concrete hanging there. It didn't half look an eyesore.
