Really. Did you not see it? He fouled one liverpool player and carried on rolling, as he did another liverpool player came across him and Fletcher kicked out at him.

I think that the penalty will be debated as Macherano tried to pull the United player down outside of the box but failed to do so until he reached the box so I think the ref was right but I can see the argument against it. I think it is down to interpretation did he bring the player down outside the box NO although he tried. Similar thing happened to England some years ago against Holland when Des Walker tried it but failed and a penalty was given and we went out of the tournament.

My formative years for football were the late 70s and early 80s. There was very little football on TV but when it was on it was always Liverpool (felt like it) and commentators constantly eulogising about the wonderful football and the skills etc etc). After a while it just stuck in your throat - and for years after when Liverpool were clearly a team who weren't playing the best football, the reputation carried on with commentators virtually genuflecting in front of Liverpool. What made it worse is that all those players then went on to get jobs in the media - so we still can't get away from them. So I reserve the right to dislike them - even now all these years later - even though they are a pale imitation of the old side.

As it happens, I'm a Brighton fan until I die but do like the way United play. It took me years to get over the cup final (and Norman Bloody Whiteside), but you couldn't help but admire the Giggs/Neville/Beckham generation. They won me over.

Liverpool to lose (and they did!) - their fans to suffer - and their best players to leave. Would suit me fine thanks.
