Sorry, Barnesey, but I'm quietly confident that the rotation of the earth on its axis comes down to giant clouds of gas and dust at the point of the formation of the solar system, and the lack of forces currently acting to stop it.

Having said that: you've got to hold or give, but do it at the right time- can't argue with that.

I would like to refer you to the Dexy's Midnight Runners song entitled 'Jackie Wilson Said'. In fact, the song only mentions exacly what he said in line one (see below). There is no further reference to his quotation(s) anywhere within the song, therefore the title is a little misleading:
