People in Brighton are the most positive and feel the luckiest of any town or city in the UK, according to a survey by the National Lottery.
The city topped the poll, with 93% of residents asked considering themselves lucky. In second-placed Liverpool, 87% of people thought they were lucky.

"We were not surprised. Anyone going to Brighton cannot ignore the buzz," said psychologist Linda Papodopoulos.

Reading was third (84%), Manchester and Cardiff polled 79% and London 76%.

"Brighton has got so much going for it - great culture, restaurants and nightlife as well as the wonderful seafront," said Dr Papadopoulos.

"It is no surprise residents are in such a positive frame of mind."

The survey explored people's overall outlook on life, their mood, optimism and life satisfaction and how it impacts on attitudes to luck.

Over-55s in Brighton were the firmest believers in luck, with 60% of those questioned saying they believed in it, compared with 43% of 16 to 25-year-olds.

Overall, 76% of people in the South East consider themselves lucky, only beaten by the North West, at 83%.

The study was conducted by ICM Research (FieldWork UK) among 1,550 adults on 14-17 June. Approximately 50 interviews were conducted in each of the 31 towns and cities surveyed.

The towns and cities that considered themselves least lucky were Aberdeen (48%), Edinburgh and Leicester (50%), Leeds and Middlesbrough (55%) and Nottingham (55%).

That's just it, they held our 50 interviews in Brighton town centre between 3pm and 5pm on a Saturday, skewed the demographic a bit :lolol:

So 93% of people consider themselves lucky... but only 43-60% actually believe in luck.

Hang on a minute... How does that work?

That's like saying "93% of people consider themselves religious, but half of them don't believe in religion".
