If someone commits a robbery with a gun the punishment is far more severe, on conviction, than if the guilty party had been unarmed. Is it time to do the same for offences such as this one, if a person is proven to be over the legal blood alcohol limit and also uninsured that they should receive a far more severe penalty. If nothing else I would impose a life-time ban on driving, this person has shown scant regard for the lives of others through his actions, with such tragic circumstances. Sorry if this sounds draconian but it is something that I feel extremely strongly about, a car can be a lethal weapon with the wrong person behind the wheel, as has been proven in this case.

I would be really angry if he only got that. Whether or not he meant it, he killed 2 children!

Hopefully the judge in the trial has his head screwed on the right way when he sentances him and gives him the maximum sentance for all four crimes.

Thoughts go out to the family and friends.

f*** me backwards you lot -- you've convicted this bloke on the basis of some sketchy details on bloody TalkSPORT or something (oh, Ok, the BBC news website, but still...!)

Jury trial or due process anyone?

I read to this post until I found somebody who hadn't already convicted the bloke.

If the evidence proves his fault and its exacerbation by DUI and no insurance, then fair enough, the maximum tariff.

The extreme tragedy of the case and the heartbreak involved speaks for itself - and perhaps the Plymouth keeper should have that right too.

Can't believe that it took until page two before someone has actually spoken sense. I'm fairly sure that the law says innocent until proven guilty. The NSC lynch mob appears to have the guy bang to rights however.

It really is tragedy.

IF it is proven tha he was over the limit and had no insurance ( I don't trust the media on these things.. they often make assumpotions to sell papers that later are seen to be not the case) then he should be treated just like everyone else..... as a professional footballer though he also needs to set an example so must eb seen to be punished.

What an awful price to pay McCormick, you had it all and abused it. pro footballer, great life style, adjulation and respect and now its all been thrown away. Those poor kids and mum and dad, lives devasted including yours. How will you sleep at night? the only positive aspect is that maybe footballers will realise they are not above the the law and will not risk ruining so many lives

Are the police going to CHARGE somebody for no insurance and excess alcohol if he had insurance and was under the limit.

Exactly. It's not really disputed that he did that, the death by dangerous driving charges are a different matter though.

Simpson and Galton at their very best

:lolol::lolol:

Personally irrespective of the consequences, I would have a zero drink policy. There is no excuse whatsoever to get behind a wheel when you have had a drink...even a half can dramatically change your ability to make judgements. What really gets me is this belief that footballers think they are above the law, be it John Terry parking his van in a disabled parking space, or Rio Ferdinand being clocked at 156 MPH on the M62 in his bentley or this twat not being insured.

Two young boys are dead and it is reported that he was drunk and driving without insurance. Whether or not the accident was entirely his fault is not certain and won't be until it's been through the courts, but for some of us that really is only half the point. Please ALLOW the rest of us to be suitably reviled by this bloke's DISGUSTING behaviour and take your pretensious clap trap elsewhere. Just to reiterate, he WAS involved in an accident in which he was pissed, uninsured and in which two kids are DEAD. Cheers.

Spot on, the Police will have breathalised him as a matter of course and also checked that his vehicle was correctly insured, it will be immediately apparent whether there was an issue with either. With regards to the dangerous driving, I imagine that there will be a full investigation of the facts, these will be presented to the court in the normal manner and it is there that any degree of guilt will be determined.
