They had their vote and voted no. Every member state should get a vote as a matter of course. Cameron has promised us one. Labour are praying for a yes vote. I hope the Irish don't sell out.

No.

I was very pro-European in my younger days and during the EEC referendum we had in about 1975 I campaigned with a group called YES which stood for Young European Socialists. How we laughed at people like Tony Benn and the Trade Union leaders who moaned that Europe was nothing more than a 'capitalist club'. It was the first time I heard the expression 'dinasour left' and it was funny seeing them sharing a platform with the likes of Enoch Powell and the other Sir Bufton Tuftons who were opposed to Europe as they didn't like the idea of us being in the same club as a load of wops and dagos.

Well I'm not sure if Tony Benn reads NSC but if he does I'd like to apologise; he was right and I was wrong - it IS just a capitalist club and if the Treaty gets ratified it will be even more so. I don't want to be ruled by an unholy alliance of German bankers, French industrialists and Dutch civil servants - and if you think our MPs are bad when it comes to expenses you ain't seen nothing compared to the snouts in the EC trough.

There seems to be a widespread view in Ireland that the earlier "NO" vote was the outcome of a bit of political posturing that may have been appropriate at the time, but had nothing whatsoever to do with the future of Ireland in the European Union.

This time they are voting on the European issue and they will vote "YES".

A clear and solid No, tell Europe where to go and get back to what it was originally meant to be, an economic organisation.

so, we have a No because its an economic organisation, and a No because it isnt any more.

Interesting. Funny the paddies voting to be governed by economically muscular european powers, no sense of history eh. Perhaps we should have thrown money at them instead of keeping the corn on the ships.

No. Let's get out of Europe while we still have some powers left.

That isn't true. It's gets overlooked but it was originally meant to prevent wars taking place on the European mainland by pooling the main resources needed to do so belonging to the two biggest protagonists. And in that it's been entirely successful: Western Europe's virtually never been more peaceful for as long a period of time. The gap in poverty levels between countries - another vital component in preventing the rise in extremism - has never been lower either.

The Yes campaign has been heavily financed in Ireland, I am fearful that they have been brainwashed.

just back from 10 days holiday in kerry and the vote yes was constantly being shown on tv,they make a very good argument why people should vote yes with very little that i saw response to why people should vote no,as they say advertising pays so i can see a easy win for the yessers

whats odd is the Yes vote soundly lost last time but looks likely to win. Commentators are suggesting this is because of recession, but i dont know why the Irsh think it will be any different in a unified EU with all countries in recession.

If I lived there I'd vote yes too. It'll suit them but not us. Shame our government didn't have the guts to hold a referendum.

All hail the unelected President of the United States of Europe, TONY BLAIR. You now live in the North-Westen Islands of Europe.

For this reason alone... NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!

Although I understand the world enough to realse Europe needs tighter links to combat China, India and the US.
