Back in the late 1960's, when I was a student, Exeter were in all sorts of trouble - financial melt-down approaching, and then the FA hit them with a stupid fine for something trivial. They appealed for help, and I. like many other fans, contributed towards their fighting fund. I sent a cheque for a couple of quid (more than it sounds - that was 40 years ago!) and they even wrote back to thank me!
