In fairness he could have been a viable target (although I don't think we were actually looking at him) until Pardew resurrected his Toon career so spectacularly last night

way out of our league. leeds where linked with him. maybe next year we might be able to get players slightly as good as best but not at mo.

Southampton bought Blackstock from Oxford United.

Indeed but still while he was youth. Blackstock played for us in our last season in the prem then the first in the CCC. In the summer of 06 we gambled by buying a lot of good players, only managed 6th in 06/07 and then had to offload Best and others having banked on promotion
