You are right I dont but being a layman I wouldn't be too perturbed if I was charged with that and would expect my solicitor to fight the charge based on the dictionary definition of damage and that no damage was caused. Reading the CPS site it appears that criminal damage comes in two levels either under or over £5000 so in this case the amount of damage would be negligible so hardly worth pursuing the issue.
EK I bow to your greater knowledge on this but it seems a very minor offence hardly worth the club or police pursing other than of course the clubs employment status if the person is employed by the club as stated previously and of course their good name which is being ridiculed at the moment,.

There are other charges such as 'acts outraging public decency' and 'concealing an arrestable offence' (assuming the perpetrator hasn't come clean yet).
