Crowd expected to be in the region of 10,000. In a 76,000 capacity stadium. Why doesn't the FA/FL have a number of venues in mind and then choose the best one with the two clubs in mind? Surely it can't be that hard to organise? Ok, you're never going to get a stadium that ticks all the boxes in terms of location, size etc but surely a better option would have been Ashton Gate or St Mary's?

All of this. But FA and common sense don't go together.

They have to book the venues months in advance for logistical reasons. If it had ended up being Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday the capacity would have been needed. They can't just decide two weeks beforehand that the two teams involved are Noddy sides and move the game to (say) Coventry.

Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday in a League Two play-off final? Oh how we wish Saints were that low. :jester:

So that's where provisional planning comes in. A number of venues and you choose the best one. We're talking league two play-off final here so unless Bradford get to the final the two clubs wont have huge support. For what reasons do venues have to be booked months in advance? The clubs themselves wont know months in advance that they are going to be in the final and they are able to organise their arrangements at fairly short notice - why can't the FA?

Presumably the host venue has to be paid, and the FL aren't going to pay more than one to be on standby.

As much as anything else, venues have to be staffed, shifts organised for caterers, stewards, turnstile operators, security, emergency services have to provide cover, tickets need to be printed etc etc. That takes time, particularly for an event that could be -I'm not saying it is on this occasion given the teams involved- a big event

The Championship.
Who cares what the venue is? The shocking thing is how many supporters each club are taking up. It would make no difference if they were playing at Southampton, Old Trafford, Wembley the fact is the support is terrible.

Thank goodness it isn't being organised by FIFA, someone would probably have taken a bung to see the game played in the Faeroes!!!

Good, hope it costs the FA/FL lots of money, their fault for not staging it at Wembley. f*** the CL Final, they should have been told that if they WANT the CL Final at the most famous stadium in the world, then they have it to suit the English domestic season. UEFA, FIFA, wankers, about time for wholesale change.

Would help if they sold reasonably priced tickets mind.

not helped by the fact the tickets are a bit of a rip off and if the final was at wembley it would easily have been DOUBLE that attendance

the ONLY reason play off finals are such big draws are because half of the town/county involved who haven't been to a game all season see it as a chance to go to wembley. going all the way to old trafford from torquay for a team you have no interest in is never going to appeal to people
