[Albion] Last time we won four top flight games in a row

1981... to stay in the old Division One. I think it's often forgotten what an amazing 'great escape' that was. We had to win our last four games to avoid relegation, and we did. A 3-0 win at Palace, then 2-1 v Leicester. Full-back Gary Williams volleying in from a corner in the last minute at Sunderland, then beating Leeds at the Goldstone..

Saw this.
Thought I'd better post it here.

Top marks for referring to Top Flight. I hate all these Premier League record references.

That was a brilliant great escape. And Palace were relegated.

Unfortunately followed by a terrible run at the end of the following season when we lost 7 out of our last 8 games.

That year Liverpool pipped Ipswich to the title.

Actually got the stat from Jonathan Pearce last night!

I always find those sort of stats pointless. Yeah ok, we’ve won 4 top flight games on the bounce for the first time in over 40 years. But for 34 of those years we weren’t in the top flight, so what’s the point in highlighting it 🤷‍♂️

Because it's at the top level. I remember us winning eight in a row in League One, but that doesn't mean so much.

I get that, but highlighting we haven’t done something for 40 odd years when for 34 of those years it was impossible to actually do it just seems pointless to me

All in the month of March, wasn’t it?
Indeed. And brought to an end I believe in a 2-2 draw v Rochdale, when their equaliser should have been disallowed!

This was every week in our first season in the PL. We haven't beaten x since 1982/3 etc! 😆

The longer we are in the top flight the more relevant these stats become!

Here is how it fared in our best season thus far (2022/23) for the last 10 games - W5 D1 L4 Points 16
We ended up with a season total of 62 points and 6th place.

As it stands after 28 games we have the same number of points after the same number of matches as in 2022/23 season - 46. Can we better it? Here’s hoping.

I have the same reaction to when someone says "if so and so was alive today they would be -- years old" . It really is meaningless as they are not alive but next month Hitler would be 135 if he was alive .

They're ok when they're this way round, but I agree with you when the stat punches downwards.

For example, we haven't won against Portsmouth for 13 years. Of course not, they've been too gash to even be playing us.
