I would have voted for hmi, buts he's too pro europe for quite a few within the conservatives.
He's one of the few tories who believes that we should remain in the EU and that's too pro-Europe for 99.9% of the tory party.

Got us out of the last recession very skillfully. Hated by the right wing head-bangers and xenophobes in the Tory party for his pro-European stance, but even the like of Simon Heffer now think Clark should be given a more prominent role ( ie chancellor ?) if the conservatives are to win this time.
Thats not really true. If the leadership were that anti europe i.e. withdraw then it would have been reflected in policies so they could suck up the UKIP votes.
Agreed, if Ken Clarke was leader of the Brigand Party, they would walk the forthcoming election.
