Still holds the record for the most goals scored in a World Cup Finals, 13 in just 6 matches in 1958.

He scored a hat-trick in a qualifier for the 1954 WC and wasn't taken as part of the squad. That's hard to imagine these days. He retired young after he'd been injured, which is why he didn't appear again,

Alan Shearer scored 30 international goals, the same as Fontaine. Shearer played 63 times - exactly three times as many as Fontaine.

He must have been some striker.
