I don't know how many brothers JP has, but there was one who worked for a shipping company, who we used to write software for, as he was seconded to us for a few months.

Looked identical to him, if you add about 2 stone.

Did YOU know that Larry Grayson's barber played second eleven cricket for Essex?
No. I was not aware of that.

Did you know that Moira Stewart's cousin wrote the screenplay for Edward Scissorhands, and also once had a minor role in an episode of Where The Heart Is ?

Thank you for that. No that fact had escaped me thus far.

Did you know that Alvin Stardust's Aunt once ran a breeding farm for Swiss Mountain goats?

I was indeed unaware. I find that piece of information enlightening.

Did you know that before he became a professional darts player, Eric Bristow (the "Crafty Cockney" to his fans), ran a small antique shop in Sidcup that specialised in rare Peruvian gramaphones ?

This thread has brought to light a substantial amount of hitherto little-known nosegays about famous people's siblings. For that, I, for one, am very grateful.

Did you know, for example, that hermaphrodite former Aston Villa star Andy Townshend's mum has bred prize-winning root vegetables at her home in Eccles, Greater Manchester AND done the London Marathon dressed as a Roman soldier?

Did you know that prior to becoming a internationally recognised singer, Rod Stewart was a grave digger?

Or that before he saved African hungry people or was a rat, Sir Bob Geldoff taught English to foreigners?

Did you know that Alvin Stardust once lived in West Street? No, nor did I till I heard him say so in a radio interview.

I found a little surprising that this statue of "Eleanor Rigby" that sits at the end of Matthew Street in Liverpool (down from the Cavern Club)

is the work of this well known sculptor

Quite enthralling indeed.

I would hazard a guess that not many of you are aware that Boris Karloff was afraid of the dark and that Bela Lugosi drank goats blood in the belief that it relieved his constipation.

I feel a more-rounded individual simply as a result of opening this thread. Thank you, one and all.

My own contribution is a mere trifle in comparison, but I humbly submit it nonetheless.

In the background of one of the Colisseum fight scenes in the Russell Crowe movie Gladiator, viewers can catch a momentary glimpse of a certain Michael Ferguson, 48, originally from Cleveland, Ohio and now resident in Santa Monica, California, where he regularly applies to be an extra in crowd scenes etc in the motion picture industry. Uncannily enough, Mr Ferguson's great great grandfather Patrick, born in County Sligo Ireland, worked as a ship's carpenter during the early years of the 19th century. After Gladiator of course, Russell Crowe went onto make Master & Commander, a movie set in the world of naval exploration and conflict around 1812. Whether this is simply coincidence or something more significant I leave up to you.

Fascinating.
Another little known fact from Gladiator. If you pause the frame during the scene in the Colosseum when one of the chariots is overturned and smashed to bits, you will notice a 3ft gas cylinder fixed to the underside of the chariot deck. This is historically inaccurate, as gas cylinders were not commonly in use until the latter part of the 19th century. Even if Romans in 180 AD had somehow discovered how to bottle gas, it would have been of questionable wisdom to strap a propane cannister to the floor of a chariot before throwing it into a prolongued and savage high speed battle.
