Then it must improve somewhere over the Atlantic because Setanta is perfect here. No complaints at all.

Setanta channels shown in the UK and ROI are only crap because of the low bitrates. When Setanta is shown elsewhere in the world you get HD/a clean SD feed which can be tinkered with to up convert the resolution to near HD quality.

ITV channels always fuzzy when digital (via Sky+, non-HD), but analogue OK, I thought digital was sposed to be an improvement!

BBC live broadcasts have always been better quality than ITV. Someone told me it was due to the BBC using better quality cameras. Not sure if that's true but would explain a lot.
