Is buying a laptop from pc world a bad move?

Try going into PCW and asking if they have any Linux laptops.
If the answer is "no", "whats limux" or "Linux isn't as good as windows" then walk away.
It's worth remembering that a significant part of the price is for the OS and Linux is free.

I purchased a laptop from PCW just the other week. Wouldn't normally but It was a Lenovo G570 and they were doing it for £329.
Bottom line was I needed to get one asap (currently seeking employment and my desktop is as slow as ....) and I have heard good reviews about it.Yes, they tried to sell me all the bumpf that goes with it but that's what they're instructed to do.
Seems OK at the moment.

I have bought PC's and Mac from them over the past few years. Always managed to get add ons or discounts, often they have to refer to a manager but they always seem to want the buisness. On my last MAC they couldnt reduce the price but doubled the memory for free.
If you know what you want, see what its value is on line and they may come close to matching it and offer free after care/upgrade or accesorie.
They easily talked me into converting over to a MAC and so far I have not looked back and now use MAC store in Churchill Square for suppport, its very good service.
I am sure like most big companys they can cock up though....

You will ALWAYS find electronics cheaper online (except for Apple). So one thing you could do is use PC World to actually look, feel and use the equipment before finding it cheaper online. BUT, if you buy something like a laptop or a TV or anything that has even a small possibility of needing repairs online, you may quickly find out the difficulties that may face you. unavailable for direct phone contact, no response to emails and very long waits for repairs once sent off are the usual ones.
The benefit you have with a high-street retailer is their direct presence. If it goes wrong and you take it into the store, they can't ignore you. I'm an ex employee and I can tell you the Hove store have a very good tech support team who do actually know what they're doing. And if they can't do it in store they can at least diagnose the issue and explain the options in front of you.
With the Sales side of it, the boys that work there have to sell anti-virus, office, accessories and insurance with 50% of the products they sell a month or will very quickly find themselves having some fairly heated meeting with management. They do fire people for not hitting them. My advice, each day the shop-floor manager has a kitty of discount to play with. If you sign up to the insurance (make a meal out of it and string it along as best you can) they can offer you as much as £40 discount. The DD gets set up, you leave it for 14 days, then cancel it. They'll have reimbursed you for the 1st month plus more in the form of the discount, you get some help with the set up over the phone if you run into any difficulties and you help the sales assistant keep his job. WIN WIN.

I've lost count of the number of people who got fedup with the (lack of) customer service after a purchase, and thankfully they then came to me instead for their laptop queries, which I thank PCW for!!
I usually go into PC World purely for amusement value. Been into the Hove one a few times asking quite general questions, and all they can seem to do is refer to the specs. Last time I was looking for a laptop with a 17" screen (for multiple poker windows) under £600, and they only had 1, so a pretty poor range of stock in my opinion. Personally, I always look at Amazon or Play.com. Got my last one (Toshiba) from Amazon and no problems at all.

Check out laptops direct (think it's laptopsdirect.com). They do some really good deals on laptops with small scratches and marks that can't be sold through normal channels.

There are some fantastic online stores (Aria, Ebuyer, Dabs, etc) which all outclass PCW by a country mile.
Go to PCW, check out the build quality, get a good look at the ports, feel the weight, etc etc then go to someone online who won't rip you off!
Pay with a credit card with a reputable online seller and get the maximum protection for the minimum price.
Even the little one-man-band repair shops will give you a better service than PCW if something that you (or a mate) can't fix yourself.
Having said that, I've replaced screens and keyboards, upgraded chips and changed the hard drive on laptops with no more training that watching a couple of videos on YouTube first. They are put together on a production line in China and so all the components were just slotted in and can be slid out again. Replacement parts from eBay and instructions from YouTube and all the service deals in the world look like highway robbery.

Mmmm i think this is not a bug issue to buy a laptyop frpm a specific shop you can buy from any where but the most important thing is that you shouild buy a Dell or HP comapny or any other company's laptop because it depends on your company and its quality no matter of shop ..yess but the shop from where you buy the laptop is should be good and have a good will in the maket then purchase the laptop with shop's warranty.......
