Having only just got to grips with itunes and downloads, can one of you know it all's let me know if it is possible to download music from someone else's itunes, without erasing mine and ending up with theirs?

Apologies if this is a really thick question but this is all comparatively new to me, only just mastered my now redundant mini disc :)

Thanks

Good question... I know a 'pain in the @ss' way to do it, but would be curious to know if theres a proper way.

I assume you mean to download tunes from someones ipod to your itunes?

The way I do it is to connect the ipod, exit itunes and go into the ipod as a seperate drive (via windows explorer), and copy and paste all the music files onto your hard drive. Then disconnect the ipod, fire up itunes and copy all the songs youve just saved, into itunes. Don t move them after though, coz itunes wont be able to locate them.

Does that make sense?

Oh yeah - turn off 'auto synchronise'... and if it asks you to synchronise, say no... (i once stupidly synchronised an empty itunes with a full ipod.... wipe-tastic!).

YOU can use a 3rd party piece of software such as Ephpod altohugh there are others which are basically the same and they enable you to basically drag and drop tunes onto your ipod.

Very handy for taking others tunes off their ipods.

If you don't use iTunes it's a lot easier.

I use winamp and you can simply drag and drop your files across from iPod to player and back again. Easy

No worries - the WINAMP suggestion below is a good one. The problem with the way I said was that it only really works if you want to copy everything. Picking out individual tracks is nigh on impossible due to the way they are stored on the ipod (its all compartmentalised and file names are different).
