Impressed by Gillingham

Not their football and they are not a club I could ever warm to because of their association with Bellotti and the years we spent there.

I went with a Gillingham fan and sat in the homophobic open stand beside the Albion fans which was pretty grim until the main offenders were escorted out of the ground.

However, the difference in the ground since we first went there as tenants is really impressive. Apart from two new stands ,the club bar with loads of tv screens and one big one was large and absolutely packed before the game and pretty busy after it. Brought home to me how much revenue we are losing when I saw the money changing hands at the bar.

Say what you will about Scally and his methods but he has done a mighty impressive job with Gillingham. Their ground was not much better than Withdean when he took over.

Very fair comment, but don't most clubs' grounds look good these days to our Withdean-ravaged eyes?

eg I live close to S***hurst but I have to concede it's a really good, big atmosphere stadium and the bars are quite superb. As you say, it reminds us how much we are losing every week by not having a stadium.

So... get on that march tomorrow!

They seem to be good at maximising spending from a not fan base.

I can't wait for them to get a new ground having spent a couple of hours in the building site that is their away end !

Totally agree re revenue stream etc. and commented as much whist in that bar. Went on a walk-about to the boxes upstairs, people serving food off desert trolleys etc and could easily have watched from a seat in the main stand by nipping thru' the open sliding doors, had I realised there were going to be so many empty ones.

Dick K signed in in the reception adjacent to the bar and I flashed my Albion shirt at him as he got in the lift, as to shout out would have drawn to much attention. I didn't catch any other Albion, other than my little group, in the Rock Cafe or whatever it was called.

The main point is that all this sort of stuff at Gillingham of all places really does serve to illustrate how low, we have sunk, thanks to Messers Bellotti & Archer.

Went to Palace, also incognito, for the "beam back" 0-0 draw
from Withdean a couple of seasons ago and again, much as I would like to aspire to being better than them in every aspect, the green eyed monster started to run out of control, when I realised just how damned civilised the suroundings are.

Gillinham Hand made Chicken Tikka Pies - bit pricey at £3 but nice to get some quality food at a ground for a change.

The catering did not look too bad yesterday compared with the muck served up during our 2 years there, however the bitter side of me meant that other than the £13 it cost me to get in, I was not willing to give them another penny of my cash. It is bad enough that we paid for some of the ground improvement, whilst Belloti was on the staff there as a consultant, without giving them any more money.

SNAP! I thought my Gillingham pal would at least get us tickets in the Prawn Sandwich section of the ground, but the cheapskate pikey bastard got us ones directly in front of these two morons :lolol:

I thought my London Irish gear would be pretty neutral but I got a blast of No Surrender to the IRA as soon as I arrived

Still, it was great to be so near the Brighton fans and the world's luckiest penalty :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I wouldn't defend those 2 Gills morons for a minute as they were a total pain in the arse (cue hilarious bum joke from them) but I was surprised to see them get done as they didn't appear to be threatening anyone.

Still, getting thrown out of a ground for being relentlessly BORING is quite funny :clap2: :clap2: Top marks the Gills security bods.

Aaahhh ... the luxury that is Priestfield.

They don't quite seem to to have got it right, though. How come the brand new toilet block at the away fans' end manages to present all the ambience of the fifty year old bog sheds like they have at places like Shrewsbury? Complete with the smells?

And there was "somebody" who attended the MPs' football match at Withdean on Sunday who described the tasteless decor of the Gillingham directors' suite as being "just like a Chinese bordello".

I thought they were a bunch of retards, one of those who escaped eviction had a kid of no more than 4 who he encouraged to sing "rent boys" at the Albion. They also told him to stop bending over the seat in case an Albion fan raped him, which was greeted with hysterical laughter from his mates.

What chance has that kid got of growing up to be anything than a next generation retard  :censored:

Surley they only have had improvements to the ground due to the rent we paid them.

Sorry I have just spent five days in Kent, returning via the match on Saturday. It was my home and I will not forget that fact, but I could have kissed the ground at Brighton Station.

Still dog shit every 20 yards along the roads though, and I did notice in the front gardens of the houses near the ground, 2 old fridges, one cooker, countless bags of rubbish, and a tatty old Ford Cortina on bricks.

Some things never change...

Of course opposition fans are going to sing things like that at us, in the same way that we call them pikeys, call anyone east of Watford sheepshaggers etc etc.

I would rather Scally spent some of the £8million on our piss-poor midfield and defence.

We might be moving to Gravesend which I really hope doesn't happen.
