following on from the usual mudslinging and Herr Flick of The Gestapo's ironic excitement at a Polish restaurant opening in Brighton,

What are your favourite foods that our imperialism, globalisation and lax new EU entrant Movement of Labour laws have provided us poor Brits, who some would have you believe lived on a diet of fish and chips and heart stopping rubbish until they blessed our shores?

I expect a deluge of the deliberately obscure 'fantastic somalian place in Hoxton' rubbish from certain quarters but be honest. What do you think?

For me (and my dog) Polish sausages being available at every corner shop near me in the last few years has been fantastic.

Living where I do I dont get through the week without a patty or two.

Nigerian restaurants are VILE.

Carry on. Best and worst? Don't worry about Searchlight monitoring this, I am sure they aren't.

cheers strings a sensible and honest answer. Not a mention of the fabulous Eritrean takeaway in Clerkenwell (do you know it? If not why not....tsk?) where the owner is sooooo nice. Good start.

German every time stodgy bland and loaded with fat and garnished with pickled cabbage and Beetroot in a thousand interesting variations all washed down with Gallons of WeisBier. Lovely grub

Oh or Aboriginal, witchety grubs and stuff chewed up by one of the womenfolk and spat in your bowl.

I like Gallipoli on Upper Street. There's three of them I think, all well nice.

Nothing wrong with their Iskender followed by a nice shisha. BOOM.

Alrouthe Restaurant in Preston Street - best Lebanese restaurant this side of Beiruit. Family run with a great choice and friendly service and some good Raki

Excellent restaurants always great for a lively night and great turkish food.

Ioffer in my local area indians but by state, we're that specialised, Chilean, morocaan, Argentinian, turkish, kurdish, chinese, vietmanese, polish, russian, french and the good ol chippie and who says we don't have a balanced muti-cultural cuisine.

fucing fantastic stuff Bevendean. Northern European food is under rated. I lived in Denmark and the stodge potatoes pork and mashed up pig faces into pates all washed down with Tuborg was heaven. Fresh fruit and veg that would be a British Government health departments wet dream. No wonder they are a foot taller than us.

Sorry

My favourite curry shop was closed down by the baliffs a few months ago - I always thought it was a hidden gem, clearly it was just that, hidden. I have since been looking for a new curryhouse in Wolverhampton, there are lots of them about, but I feel that they all need to be sampled before I can decide which is my favourite. Currently I have found one, which has the perfect atmosphere and good food and another with horrible atmosphere but wonderful food.

As for Italian, there is a nice place called Cataldo's in School street, Wolverhampton. The food is gorgeous, but it is very expensive. Don Salvo in Wolves is also does good Italian grub.

A fellow poster on here, crodonilson, has recommended a Carribean place to me, which I am yet to sample too.

All this food talk is maing me ruddy hungry, fortunately the other half is making a sweet Thai curry tonight. :yumyum:

I am a big fan of Thai Food in pubs. Certainly beats the bog standard traditional food that used to be served in many establishments. The Churchill, Notting Hill Gate is the current flavour of the month.

Tito's Peruvian Restaurant - 4-6 London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9SG

Peruvian cuisine is somewhat of a undiscovered territory in London, but Tito's aims to fill that gap in the dining experience. In the basement area, diners are able to enjoy a selection of sandwiches and drinks such as Chica Morada and Inka Cola, whereas on the first floor of this restaurant, you are invited to enjoy a more formal dining experience. Guinea pig, seafood and various vegetarian dishes are all served in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

fair play barrel of fun good shout, and has given a shot in the arm to many pubs too. My favourite is Skehans in Nunhead, proper old boozer with fantastic Thai food. Is a great combination.

Ahhh Cuy

I had not really done much cullinary research before my trip to South America and happened upon a little restaurant selling these critters. Great to chew and even better to share.

I think the Peruvians consume something like 50 million + annually.

I shall have to give that place a try

Proper Salt Beef sandwiches from a Jewish deli with Gherkins and Hot mustard...there was a pub in Notting Hill gate that I used to visit where the Landlord had Hot Salt beef joints in the carvery which were thick cut and served on Granary bread...I have never eaten a finer thing in my life.
