I'm all for winding up the opposition, but is there a limit on what is acceptable?

Having been to a few matches at Old Trafford over the years, and listened to the Munich/Hillsborough/Heysel chants from fans, is there a line over which we should not step, or is anything game.

For example, at the Leeds v United game Tuesday, this was waved about by some MUFC fans

Yes. Palace fans saying the Amex is full of plastics when its been reasonably and conclusively proven thats not the case. Ban any Palace fan who keeps on and on and on and on about it.

Of course there is a boundary to what is acceptable banter, and taking things to far. Wouldn't like to clarify exactly where that line is though!

Yes that is too far. As is holding your arms out pretending to be an aeroplane when playing Manchester United. And so is shouting "muur-derr-errrs, muur-derr-errrs" when playing Liverpool, like the bloke a few rows back from me last night.

I have always found this subject interesting.

For example is it taking things too far to chant about Hillsborough? Leeds and Istanbul? Munich?

And, is it any different if a group on England fans decide to sing the tune to Dambusters with their arms outstretched whilst playing Germany?

Yes, there is a limit. But calling Glenn Murray a 'greedy Judas b*stard' clearly falls well within it...

On the more serious stuff, it has to be the clubs that sort it. I know why they are tentative about getting involved, however disgusting the songs are they don't want to alienate part of their hardcore support. But they just have to see the bigger picture, and the harm such shameful incidents do to their reputation.

To be fair to Rangers and Celtic, they get a lot of stick but they have tried to address their chanting issues with public pronouncements from key figures. Man United's initial statement said they 'could not condone' the flag. That is so weak. You have to condemn it, and threaten bans if the culprits are unmasked. Granted, Man Utd have been the 'sinned against' party on sick chants for a very long time, but that is no excuse.

The false plastic fans argument doesnt bother me, Brighton and palace give as good as they get. The gay jibes don't bother me personally, it seems like pantomime really, but some chants can be OTT and I guess they may offend some fans who may or may not be Gay. If such chants or comments cause offense then out respect to those fans, it shouldn't be tolerated on NSC.

Always thought this was hysterically dim of england fans. Not many of the Dambusters came back. and the raid's affect or the Nazi war effort is still being debated. would be more suitable to do the theme from the film of The Longest Day or The Battle of Britain......

The irony of Man U fans doing that is that they would be up in arms if the Leeds fans had made a similar stand with Munich.

Anyting based on the injury or death of a clubs fans or players is going beyond in my eyes. Disgraceful!

Correct , yesterdays Skys Sports News seemed to overlook the Istanbul stuff and simply concentrate on big horrible Leeds making Munich chants at the Red Shit

For balance, Leeds fans were jumping up and down doing their Munich chant as the United lot were being escorted towards the ground. Happens, both sides, every time they meet.

In which case they're both as bad as either other and neither can claim any moral high-ground.

Anything about anyone who has died e.g Munich/Hillsborough, Racist or homophobic abuse is to far in my opinion. However I know that the last is a long way from being stamped out.
