going by train. can those who've gone before me say whether it's best to get the train all the way there (the stop, i hear, is a way from the ground) or get it to liverpool and take the bus. can their fans be trusted to take public transport in peace?

If you are going to get the train, just use the Merseyrail to one of the Birkenhead stations. We are planning to get the 1138 from Manchester to Mickeyland and then have a few beers around Lime Street and get a cab to the ground. Been drinking around Tranmere before and the memory of somebody trying to flog stewing steak (probably horse) was enough for me.
