I think you'll probably find it has something to do with the advertisement banners and not the site itself.

I have seen a waiting for a skimlinks web response when using this site and the page has been slow to load - I guess its likely to be something to do with how NSC generates an income from ads, etc. and wonder if those messages in the OP are connected to this or whether skim links is something that wasn't known about / authorised for this site?
