I feel this needs to be said

I feel at the moment we need to be in a period of making big decisions, both on and off the pitch.

Because I feel as a Brighton fan that at the moment board and management do not what we what to be or where we want to be as a club.

I was at the game tonight and after the game I had a discussion with another fan coming out and he said that the team will not get into the play-offs with the players and style we are playing at the moment and my response was that if we want to be in the Premier League, we either needs to make a big decision. It is simply we are going have to be serious about getting into Premier League or else, it is time for the likes of Barber to leave.

The reason why, since we brought him in, changes has been happening all over the place. Prices have gone up, commercialism has gone up, it's been all about families and adult fans have been told to sit down. Barber said doing these was necessary if are reach the top division.

But the management has not been fielding a team who look capable of achieving it. Poyet, I know he has done a lot of good for us since coming, does not seem to be able to make the correct transfer decisions and we end up the wrong types of players for a Premier League push. Can someone tell me that the likes of Lopez, Bruno and Hammond are the type of players that are needed if we want to go up? I'm saying that if we are aiming for a consistent 13th place finish every season then fair enough, but we have people in our club making endless promises about top-flight football. There does seem to be that lack of understanding between the club's board and management and if feel like we are a club we need a decision to make.

If want to be in the Premier League for real, then we need to have a total overhaul of our squad sooner rather than later. The likes of Greer, Hammond, Barnes, Lopez, Painter, Bruno, Calderon, El-Abd and maybe LuaLua & Dicker will have be moved on and we have to set about signing more players who have a calibre of getting us into the play-offs. We would also have to have a different game play and more of a Plan B because over teams have worked us out since we come up. We need a lot more direct strikers and less wingers in front of goal and more strikers of a goal scoring threat. The defense will have to be dismantled and replaced immensely and the midfield will have to need more players will an aerial threat.

If Poyet is able to deliver these changes then it will be fair to him. But if does not make those changes and continues to bring in small, weak strikers and Spaniards that run around and do nothing then I am afraid something will have to give and it might be time for us to part ways with him, Tarrico and Oatway.

But if the club are not really serious about Premier League football and want to continue with the way things are on the pitch are like now, then it needs to Barber that has to go. The prices will need to come down and the expectations and promises will have to go with him. I just feel we do not have that direction at the moment and feel confuse as a club.
Watford, will I do not agree with the way they have gone about it, seem to have that direction and it was displayed tonight.

I know this is a long thread and some of it does not make sense but that how I feel about what the club needs to do at the moment so the fans do not turn against them, they do not get have arguments behind the scenes and that the club does not end up sliding down the league and in a relegation fight. If we don't want to be a Premier League club, we can make the effort of finishing around the top 10 as a new target.

And please don't bash me for insulting your favourite player or what not, I am just stating my own opinion, that what these threads are for.

Happy new year!:drink::albion2:

So why exactly does Barber need to go?
As I see it, he's trying to get extra money for the club, which can be spent on transfer fees and higher wages for better players.
I'll be very surprised if we don't have a new, big name sponsor for next season. Hopefully with a large injection of money we'll be able to be more competitive in the transfer market and hence the league.

Whilst selling off our best players? Noone already gone, Buckley, CMS and Bridcutt all high possibilities to go in Jan window? We are either serious about building a solid team or we aren't.

It's not just about getting to the Premier League, it's also about having the infrastructure to stay there. Barber was brought in to do this job. Although there will be growing pains he will get us there - off the field.

To my mind it's Bloom who has to make the tough decisions. The fans won't be overly happy paying Premier League prices for Championship football. The fact is if you build a 30,000 stadium and bring in quality players you create expectation. A year and a half ago most fans would be happy just to survive and maybe finish top half. Now it seems the average expectation is to compete for 5th / 6th for the whole season.

"High possibilities"? Where do you get this from?

If these happen, I'll be very disappointed, but I'll await their replacements before making major judgements.

Let me guess this is your 2nd season.
overhaul! we ve got the 2nd best defensive in the league.tbh it seems to be all the plastics that have all this talk of the prem the really fans seem more than happy with how were going about things.yes a good forward is needed but apart from that were creating lots of chances but not bagging them.im more than happy being a good championship side the last few times in this league we ve bombed out straight away.
Lets walk before we try to run.
And enjoy the ride because it sure beats 3000 at gillingham and 7000 at withdean

You are right about some of the thread not making sense - Barber has only just joined the club and his job has nothing to do with the players or managers performance on the field. Paul Barber was brought in to try to make the Amex bring in the money to create and sustain a squad of players that could reach and survive in the Prem.

Some people on here think that real football is like fifa, you just bring in players with imaginary money and in no time you win everything. Reality is that players won't/don't perform and Managers make technical and emotional mistakes that come back to haunt them
eg We need a fast winger and a striker. A winger like say Craig Noone............. and a striker that scores goasl say like Murray....................

Because I feel he is alienating some fans. If crowds decline due to his decisions, the club will lose money. And it is a little frustrating if we are talking non-stop about the Premier League and we are not getting it on the pitch.

I would be more than happy to stay where we are in the league and build for future successes so that we can get to the top-flight and stay there but I just cannot bear people talking us up, calling us promotion contenders and then us not delivering. It just builds up expectations and you get people moaning at the team, booing and creating an unpleasant atmosphere. Hence the plastics that leave early.

If we lowered our expectations and set ourselves a certain goal then maybe we will be happier watching.

Why is Barber suddenly the Anti-Christ? He's

1. Got rid of some shit cheerleaders.
2. Got rid of some dodgy caterers.
3. Made some people sit down who were supposed to be sitting down in the first place.

That is my point. The money is with Bloom and that should be his decision to make. If it is one way or the other, it would be a lot better. If the latter is what we are going for then I would be happy with that, as long as we don't get into any relegation fights. Either way, we need to sort our strikers because we just haven't got anyone at the moment who looks a threat in front of goal.

Not saying he is. He has done some good decisions but I don't agree with all his decisions. He is a Premier League man anyway and that is the reason we got him, right? If he is running the show in some ways than it's down to them. It just that I am not prepared to have talks of Premier League this, Premier League that if we are having mid-table Championship football on the pitch. It just splitting the fans apart.

Back in 2010 Bloom didn't know how many season tickets we would sell, how much merchandise we'd sell or anything. Now he knows what the numbers are and, in Barber, a bloke who knows how to keep things ticking over, control costs and maximise revenues. Off the field things have exceeded expectation, and you'd think he might therefore find a couple of million for a decent striker.

No, just trying to make a logical post. There was a lot of things that ticked me off tonight. 10,000 plastics ruling the Amex springs to mind. And if we do get magic beans, it would be good, just wishful thinking.

I just cannot believe how poorly we defended tonight. I just don't think the likes of Bruno, El-Abd and Greer are up to it. We need better defenders or we are slipping down this league.
