How much money has Lewes District Council spent...

From LDC's website:-

How much has LDC spent up to now on the public inquiries into the Falmer proposal?

The Council has spent £207,000 on presenting its case to the two Public Inquiry sessions in 2003 and 2005. A significant proportion of these costs arose solely from the decision of John Prescott to reopen the inquiry for a second session .

(This was before the appeal process began)

And a second question answered more recently:-

How much will it cost to provide the additional information to the Secretary of State?

We estimate that it will cost about £36,000 for transport and planning consultants to prepare the necessary evidence.

LDC then go on to claim that "Money is still available for costs because the Government became liable to pay all our costs when it conceded defeat in the High Court Action".

So the answer appears to be £243,000. But this doesn't include internal costs, such as Officer Time.

And it certainly doesn't tie in with the "consultancy" expenditure, mentioned in tha Argus story. But maybe a lawyer isn't a consultant. And maybe planning inquiry costs come out of a different budget head.

Actually ... there's no "maybe" about that. They do.
