How little do you have to be earning to get WTC of £52 per week?

I don't know, but was interested so I had a look at the HMRC website

HMRC Tax Credits - Error

Trying it out I decided to put in the lowest income I could possibly imagine and it told me I wouldn't be entitled to any benefit on a wage of £17,000pa.

That's practically minimum wage and wouldn't qualify you. What a joke.

Therefore if this guy IS receiving WTC then he must be SERIOUSLY skint.

If that's the lowest income you could possibly imagine then I wish I lived in your world.

Perhaps you need to go back to school.

"£5.80 is the main rate for workers aged 22 and over"

For a 40 hour week thats £12,064 per year.

For younger people its obviously less than this.

Really?

I've never had a full time job that paid less. That is a shockingly poor salary

When I worked in BT I was getting the equiv. of 16,000 sterling at the time - admittedly before (extensive) overtime; in a country with a higher minimum wage and a much higher cost of living. Call centre, shops, fast food restaurants, really do etc pay that little.

I earn less than half of my former BT salary which I can get by on because I dont have a mortgage. The downside is living in Grimsby.

Thanks Greens :(
It seems looking at some of the figures above, the guy is getting minimum wage x forty hours to get his WTC...

Perhaps the minimum wage should be increased by £1.30 an hour to take HMRC out of the loop!? (£52 divided by 40 = £1.30...)
