Everyone seems excited that we might sign him, but reading his profile it's not exactly top drawer. He had a good season last year but can someone explain why he's getting people so excited.

"Greer began his professional career with Clyde where he played only 33 games before securing a £250,000 move to English Premiership club Blackburn Rovers. He scored on his Blackburn debut against European giants Barcelona and played one other match for the Lancashire club, in the Football League Cup.

Greer had a spell on loan with Stockport County, scoring once against Wycombe Wanderers,[1] before returning to Scotland to play for Scottish Premier League club Kilmarnock. He has also received international recognition, having been capped for Scotland B against Poland B in December 2005,[2] and against Republic of Ireland B in November 2006.[3]

In July 2007, Greer signed for Doncaster Rovers after he rejected a new contract offer from Kilmarnock.[4] His first season at Doncaster was blighted by several injuries and Greer was restricted to only 6 appearances in 2007-08, though he did manage to score his first goal for the club against Bournemouth.[5] During the 2008-2009 season he joined League One side Swindon Town on an initial one month loan[6] which was later extended for a further two months[7] thanks to a financial contribution from TrustSTFC's Red Army Fund. On his return to Doncaster, he was released from his contract on 7 May 2009[8] after only 12 appearances in two years.

Following his release from Doncaster, Greer soon agreed a two year contract to sign for Swindon Town on a free transfer in July 2009 having impressed whilst on loan at the club. Soon after officially joining the club he was announced as team captain for the 2009-10 season.[9]

On 17th May 2010 he got a straight sending off for a high tackle in the Play Off 2nd leg against Charlton Athletic, which eventually Swindon went on to win on Penalties. His sending off means he is suspended from the play off final against Huddersfield/Millwall on the 29th May.

Although he's suffered from injuries during his career, that profile actually sounds pretty good for a League 1 CB, and I for one would be pleased to see him sign for us.

I'm not making any judgements about a player we haven't even signed! Just not sure why he seems to be touted by some people as a potentially pivotal buy based on his profile. I know little about him and was hoping those in the know could fill in the gaps.

He is a good centre half for this level, his plus points are he is great in the air and is very vocal and organized, a good leader. Negative points, not the fastest and can get caught out with a ball over the top, you can counter this by playing a quicker player next to him (cuthbert). He also has the knack of giving away free kicks.

Im 99% sure he isnt leaving us.

He sounds like what we need. Hope the 99% bit comes back to bite you!

That sending off was f***ing stupid and apparently wilson laid alot of the blame on losing in the final to greers absence, thats why i said 99% not 100%. It could of course all be total bollocks. That challenge v charlton was an unusual one for him, the freekicks he normally gives away are incredibly silly ones, like a small push in the back when jumping for a header, niggly little challenges that are not needed, Frustrating to say the least.

Greer's red card was only the whole teams second red card of the season, so when i say niggly they really are that, not even bookable offences just plain stupid.
