Sussex start their County Championship campaign against the rightful champions from Lancashire today. This is going to be a real test for us, as Lancashire have a strong and capable squad, including James Anderson and Saj Mahmood.

Most interesting from a Sussex perspective, is the absence of Hoppo from the 14 man squad:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sussex (from): Yardy (capt), Aga, Collymore, Goodwin, Hamilton-Brown, Joyce, Kirtley, Martin-Jenkins, Nash, Prior, Rayner, Smith, D Wright, L Wright.

Lancashire (from) : Chapple (capt), Anderson, Chilton, Croft, du Plessis, Hogg, Horton, Keedy, Mahmood, Newby, Prince, Smith, Sutton.

Also interesting is the inclusion of Kirtley in the CC squad. I thought he was only going to play one dayers this year in his job share with Lewry

Maybe with Lewry not ready to play Kirtley is taking his job share seriously?

Sussex (from): Yardy (capt), Aga, Collymore, Goodwin, Hamilton-Brown, Joyce, Kirtley, Martin-Jenkins, Nash, Prior, Rayner, Smith, D Wright, L Wright.

I'd go for the following lineup:

Yardy (capt)
Nash
Joyce
Goodwin
Prior (wkt)
Hamilton-Brown
L Wright
Martin-Jenkins
D Wright
Rayner
Collymore

with Kirtley, Aga, and Tom Smith missing out.

That gives is D Wright and Collymore as opening bowlers, with RMJ and Luke to back them up. We then have a specialist spinner in Rayner, plus Nash, Hamlton-Brown and Yardy who can all bowl spin. Batting wise, this team bats down to 10 as well.

Winning the toss will be key to winning this though, as with the weather set fair I'd imagine spin will play a part later on.

I just watched the Toss on SSN, we've won the toss and have elected to bat.

Come on Sussex!

How lucky are Sussex to get sun when we bat. Lancs will be so unbelievably unlucky when the cloud cover and rain starts for the duration of their innings, robbing them of their deserved title

they must be the most unlucky team in the world ever....

Sussex: Yardy, Nash, Joyce, Goodwin, Prior, L.Wright, Smith, Martin-Jenkins, D.Wright, Aga, Collymore.

Lancashire: Horton, Chilton, Prince, Du Plessis, Croft, Sutton, Chapple, Smith, Keedy, Mahmood, Anderson.

So, we've gone in a batsman less than most predicted (with Aga playing), Tom Smith is the specialist spinner (Rayner not playing) and Rory Hamilton-Brown is 12th man.

Odd.

A lot of faith being put in the top order there but i think that's a good thing, we need enough bowling to be taking 20 wickets and the top 6 should score plenty of runs.

Luke Wright looks to be playing as a batting all rounder now then.

It's very attacking, i'll give it that, but i'd rather have RHB for Smith i think

Or RHB for Aga... we need a specialist spinner in there.

With that line-up winning the toss and batting is important though.
