LONG overdue post, this...

Come on folks, just think about this for a moment whydoncha before you piss any more of your money up against the wall. Truth is that anybody with even a passing interest in horse racing can break even or make a modest profit on each way betting. That’s what it’s there for. It’s a sort of safety net, in case some crappy nag with nothing whatsoever going for it pops out of the pack to nick it on the line from the favourite. Always assuming the ‘name’ jockey on the guest ride isn’t being paid more to hold it up than he is to ensure it wins. Which is far from certain. Continuing on the ’think about it’ theme, if you were pretty sure what would win the 3:30 at Warwick, would YOU spread that information around, thereby flattening the price? Of course you wouldn’t. Sure, the subscription tipsters talk a good game. But then they have to, cos that’s where they make their money. From the subscriptions, rather than the racing. If you don’t believe me, just take one look at the Channel-4 racing pages on Teletext. Every page has HUGE flashing notices saying things like: ‘YANKEE OF ALL TIME ON THURSDAY!’, ‘COLOSSAL 20/1 SHOCK WINNER!’, ‘COUP NAMED IN 5 SECS THURSDAY!’. Think I made those up? I got them off setting C4 Teletext on page 550 and watching them flash up before my eye. In about6 ten seconds flat.

Just say no, kids :nono:

Ditto. Harmless, affordable distraction. I am never going to bet the mortgage on this sort of thing, it's just a giggle watching to see if horses come in or not. I spend less on this than most people spend on beer, fags or drugs in a day. It's not killing me, it's not killing someone else, so I would class myself as responsible enough to make my own decision.

I won a £170 on Star Of Light (16/1) in the 3:20 at Newbury, i don't know if it was one of the tips or not as i don't get the e-mails.

Those email tips are SHIT, end of.

As Tom Hark says, just read the form (it's not difficult) and you'll break even on e/w bets and you'll even get a little kick out of picking the winner yourself rather than just copying someone else.

And, lastly the best advice is to not use online bookmakers, go to a betting shop instead. It is a lot harder to hand over a crisp 20 pound note than click a mouse. You'll stop way earlier than you will with online betting.

I hope he's all right, and it's nothing too serious.

I also hope that he hasn't been giving the surgeon tips on the horses.......

Get well Moggy.

Thanks for the wishes, he's had blood tests today and there is a possibility that it may be a blood clot on the lung but we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully it wont be as bad as that. On the tipping front, they are still coming thru but seeing as I'm on the road all day I dont get them until I get home after the last race - sorry about this but it cant be helped I'm afraid.
