Horrific accident on M25

Just seen pictures of the recovery truck on BBC news....it is a miracle that one person survived.

Unable to adaquately to express my admiration for the dedication and professionalism of the Surrey fire and ambulance crews who worked for an hour in what must have been unimaginably grim conditions to cut him free from the wreckage.

Maybe its just me, but there's a time and a place for jokes, and a thread about 5 local lads getting killed coming home from a stag do possibly isn't it.

This story has no upside to it, it's a shocking and appalling thing to happen. There is little to be gained from smug, self-satisfying remarks, (apart from furthering the cause of smug, self-satisfied people), let alone use this story as an excuse to spout off something repugnant and, not only highly inappropriate, but totally irrelevant.

its just too f***ing wierd to to think about,The whole life and death thing. My nephew Kevin Ball was a promising player with county league Oakwood aged 19 when he got hit by a car and died on a night out, he was just having a night out. this was over 10 years ago and there is not a day we dont think about him, my heart goes out to the families of those involved in this tragic accident this weekend.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the recovery vehicle on the news last night, I just couldn't believe it had disintegrated so much, soooo amazed they managed to keep one person alive and get him out, the emergency service people must have worked a miracle. What a horrible time for all of the families especially when they were going to a wedding soon.

We were in the back of one of those recovery trucks just before Christmas, it seemed like a great beast of a thing, but that one just crumpled.

RIP those that died in this tragic accident, my condolences to all of their friends, and family.

The pictures were dreadful.

Was the lorry stationary? The M25 is widened to four lanes at that point and there was no hard shoulder where the accident took place.

That stretch of the M25 is well lit.

Why did the recovery vehicle go under the back of the lorry? They are supposed to be fitted with heavy duty 'retainer bars' to help prevent this type of accident.

It looked like the container was over-hanging the back of the lorry.

Why the f*** didn't the recovery driver see the damn thing?

A lot of families will never be the same again after this tragedy.

RIP all of them............an awful end to my lovely weekend and visit to Cheltenham.
Just highlights, I'm afraid to say,that the majority of what I've read on here is from the minority showing what absolute bigots you are....what does it matter what nationality the driver may or may not have been...? wake up and smell the coffee....also condolences to the family of the policeman shot in Shrewsbury...from a retired copper.

As an asside, my car was smashed up whilst I was at work in Staines a few years ago, I came out of work to find my car in bits, I called the recovery company, and after a couple of hours, my car had been loaded up on the the recovery vehicle and I got in the cab and the driver took me home to Brighton, why is this interesting? Well, it was pissing down, and was late at night, and the recovery driver drove like a maniac all the way home, it was a white knuckle ride, and I wonder if maybe the drivers of those vehicles get a bit over-confident and drive too fast.

One we used recently to collect a new car was a complete nutter, including deliberately driving in to the back of a car (slowly) because it wouldn't get out of his way. A very scarey trip.

Quite awful, and it brings it home to me how careful one has to be, given that I drive on that road very regularly. All I can say is that if the bloke who survived has been taken to the Queen Vic, he must have fairly severe facial injuries, as there is a specialist unit there. He will be in the best possible hands there, though. The plastic surgeons in that unit are top draw.
